NORFOLK, Va., March 13, 2019—Norolk State graduate student Naz Karagoz was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, the conference office announced today. Bethune-Cookman’s Michelle Ncube was named Rookie of the Week.
Karagoz (Gr., Istanbul, Turkey) was a perfect 2-0 in singles play this past week, picking up both victories in the No. 1 position. She defeated Hampton’s Yulia Kapitanova 6-3, 6-3 before dispatching of Sofia Shutko of Savannah State 6-2, 6-1. She also recorded a 6-1 doubles win alongside Zoe Fraser against Savannah State.
Ncube (Fr., Harare, Zimbabwe) defeated Norfolk State’s Paula Fortuno 6-3, 7-5 in the No. 1 singles positionl and she pushed North Dakota’s top player, Isa Sullivan, to three sets. She also paired with Karen Romero for a No. 2 doubles win over North Dakota, 6-2.

Rehaana Butt (B-CU) defeated North Dakota’s Kaede Amano 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.
Renata Ruiz (NCAT) secured the Aggies’ lone point against South Carolina State, defeating Lasya Patnaik 4-6, 7-5, 7-5.
