MEAC Announces Weekly Men's Basketball Honors

NORFOLK, Va, Feb. 26, 2019–The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced today that junior guard Malik Maitland of Bethune-Cookman and sophomore guard RJ Cole of Howard share honors as this week’s MEAC Men’s Basketball Players of the Week, presented by the US Marines.  Additionally, B-CU’s Cletrell Pope, a junior forward, is this week’s MEAC Defensive Player of the Week, while Howard’s Andre Toure, a freshman forward, earns the Rookie of the Week honor.
 
Maitland (5-9, Jr., G, Daytona Beach, Fla.) scored 20 points while adding seven assists, four steals and one rebound in the Wildcats’ victory at in-state rival Florida A&M on Saturday, the team’s lone game of the past week. He connected on six of 13 shots from the floor, 2-for-6 from 3-point range and 6-for-7 from the charity stripe.
 
Cole (6-1, So., G, Union, N.J.) averaged 19.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 4.0 steals as the HU Bison tallied wins over Coppin State on Saturday and Morgan State on Monday. He had 19 points with seven assists, four rebounds and two steals in the Coppin State game, followed by 19 points with six steals, five rebounds and four assists in the Morgan State game.
 
Pope (6-9, Jr., F, Northport, Ala.) garnered a game-high 12 rebounds, including 10 defensive boards, in the Wildcats’ win at Florida A&M on Saturday. Additionally, he tied for a game-high 20 points and he had one blocked shot.
 
Toure (6-8, Fr., F, Paris, France) played an integral role in the Bison tallying victories on the road against Coppin State on Saturday and Morgan State on Monday, averaging 11.5 points and 3.0 rebounds with a total of two blocks, two assists and one steal during the week. He tied a career-high with 14 points in the win over the Bears.

Other Top Performers
Cedric Council (CSU) averaged 7.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocked shots, along with 3.0 points, as CSU dropped a pair of games to Howard and Delaware State during the past week. His top game was an 11-rebound, three-block night against Howard.
 
Ibn Williams (CSU) scored a season-high 12 points against Howard on Saturday, followed by seven points scored against Delaware State on Monday.
Lamar Morgan (CSU) averaged 16.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.0 assist and 1.0 steal as the Eagles dropped games at home to Howard on Saturday and Morgan State on Monday.
 
Justin Ravenel (FAMU) scored 19 points on 6-for-13 shooting, hitting four of eight 3-point tries and three of four free throws in a home loss to rival Bethune-Cookman on Saturday. His four treys helped him set a new FAMU career mark for 3-pointers made with 280, surpassing the old record of 279 set by Terrence Wood between 2002-04.
 
Kameron Langley (NCAT) averaged 7.0 points, 8.6 assists, 3.0 steals and 2.5 rebounds as the Aggies posted victories over S.C. State on Saturday and Savannah State on Monday.  His top game included 10 points with eight assists, four steals and three rebounds against Savannah State.
 
Randy Miller (NCCU) averaged 20.0 points and 3.0 rebounds as the Eagles defeated Savannah State on Saturday and South Carolina State on Monday. He hit seven threes while connecting on 58.3 percent of his shots from the arc and 57.9 percent of his shots from the floor.

Raasean Davis (NCCU) averaged 14.5 points and 9.0 rebounds in victories over Savannah State on Saturday (78-69) and S.C. State on Monday (72-62). He blocked a total of three shots.
 
Mastadi Pitt (NSU) shot a career-high 8-for-11 from the floor for his third 20-point game of his career in a win at Morgan State on Saturday. He netted 21 points, including three 3-pointers, along with three rebounds and one assist.
 
Alex Long (NSU) totaled eight rebounds along with 10 points and three assists in a 75-74 win at Morgan State on Saturday, the Spartans’ lone game of the week.
