SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Alabama A&M swept a doubleheader from the Savannah State softball team by scores of 10-6 and 1-0 at Lady Tigers Field. In the first game, SSU jumped out to a 3-0 advantage, scoring twice in the first inning and once in the bottom of the third.
 
Stacie Smith reached base on an error by the pitcher in the first inning , stole second and advanced to third on an error by the catcher while Peyton Mitchell drew a walk and stole second. Cortni Jones reached base on an error by the right fielder which allowed Smith and Mitchell to score. In the third inning, Mitchell and Jakayla Sullivan drew walks and Jones reached base on a fielder's choice to load the bases. A double by Shayna Byersallowed Sullivan to score for a 3-0 lead.
 
A&M scored a run in the top of the fourth but Savannah State answered with two of their own in the bottom half of the inning when Stephanie Vargas walked and scored on an error and Mitchell hit a solo home run for a 5-1 cushion.

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – No. 16 Kentucky scored a total of eight runs across the second and third innings on Friday evening, allowing the Wildcats to defeat Bethune-Cookman by a count of 10-2 in non-conference softball action at Pawtucket Field as part of the 2019 Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Palm Springs, California.
 
Kentucky (7-6) erupted for four runs in the second inning.
 
Already leading 2-0, Mallory Peyton would reach on an error from BCU right fielder Kaira Cabato that allowed Jenny Schaper and Kayla Kowalik to score unearned on the play.
 
Colorado State
Bethune-Cookman fell to Colorado State by a score of 7-0 on Friday afternoon at the Big League Dreams Complex as part of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. All games for Friday saw time changes stemming from Thursday afternoon storms that went well into the night in and around the Palm Springs area.
 
Colorado State (7-2) began the game with runs in each of the first three innings.
 
The Rams opened the game with an Ashley Michelena triple followed by a sacrifice fly to center from Danni Klein that allowed the CSU leadoff batter to score easily to put her team ahead, 1-0.

Valparaiso 12, Delaware State 1

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Delaware State committed seven errors, leading to seven unearned runs, in 12-1 loss to Valparaiso on day two of the Liberty University Softball Challenge Saturday morning. The Hornets only trailed 3-1 before allowing five runs in the fourth inning and four in the fifth.
 
After Delaware State starting pitcher Alexis Goldsby set down the Crusaders in order in the top of the first inning, the Hornets scored first with a run in the bottom of the inning.
 
Jasmine Melgoza drew a walk to lead off the DSU first inning and advanced to second on a bunt single by Jonah Cunningham. Two batters later, Jordan Casey singled to right center to score Melgoza with the first run of the game. Later in the inning, the Hornets had runners at third and second with one out, but failed to add any more runs.
 
Liberty
Liberty scored 19 runs in the first two innings en route to a 20-0 victory over Delaware State on day one of the Liberty Challenge Softball Tournament.
 
The Flames scored nine runs on six hits in the first inning and exploded for 10 more runs on six hits in the second inning. Liberty was also aided by two Delaware State errors in the second.
 
The game was called after DSU batted in the top of the fifth due to the eight-run rule.
