MEAC Announces Weekly Softball Honors

NORFOLK, Va. - Feb. 19, 2019 – Norfolk State’s Kylee Lopez was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon. Bethune-Cookman’s Victoria Guzman was selected as Pitcher of the Week and Howard’s Kalita Dennis was named Rookie of the Week.
 
Lopez (C, Sr., Norfolk, Va.) went 4-for-10 this past week for the Spartans with three RBIs, three runs scored, two walks and one double. She finished the week with a .400 batting average. In her first game last week against Robert Morris, Lopez went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, while also scoring two runs.
 
Guzman (P, So., San Jose Calif.) went 1-1 over the weekend with a win over LIU Brooklyn. She finished the weekend with a 1.91 ERA in two appearances. She pitched four scoreless innings with a strikeout against LIU Brooklyn, facing 18 batters.
 
Dennis (1B, Fr., Elk Grove, Calif.) batted .400 over the weekend by going 6-for-15 and scoring three runs and recording her first career home run as a Bison. In Howard’s win over UNC Wilmington, she had three hits, two RBIs and scored a run.
 
Other Top Performers
Kaira Cabato (B-CU)
was perfect for the Wildcats off the bench, going 2-for-2 and collecting two RBIs. She had a hit in Bethune-Cookman’s win over Big 12 opponent Kansas, and she scored two of the team’s three runs.

Yvonne Siordia (B-CU) went 5-for-13 for the Wildcats with two doubles, drawing a walk and placing down one sacrifice bunt. Defensively, she had a perfect fielding percentage at third base, accumulating one putout and nine assists. Her doubles came in wins over LIU Brooklyn and Kansas.
 
Camille Navarro (HOW) went 6-for-17 at the plate for a .353 batting average over the weekend. She also had three RBIs with a double.
 
Gabby Vaughan (NSU) went 3-for-10 over the weekend for the Spartans. She one double, four total bases and 14 putouts.
