NORFOLK, Va., Feb. 19, 2019—The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) announced today that
junior guard Randy Miller Jr. of North Carolina Central has been selected as its Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, presented by the U.S. Marines. Meanwhile,
junior forward Cletrell Pope of Bethune-Cookman is the MEAC Defensive Player of the Week and
Norfolk State freshman guard C.J. Kelly is the conference’s Rookie of the Week.
Miller (6-2, Jr., G, Odenton, Md.) posted averages of 20.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists as the Eagles defeated Howard on Monday night after dropping a 75-71 contest at Norfolk State on Saturday in overtime He had 24 points and three assists against Howard and 17 points with three rebounds and four assists against the Spartans.
Pope (6-9, Jr., F, Northport, Ala.) averaged 8.0 rebounds and 1.0 blocked shot while scoring 19.5 points in a victory over South Carolina State on Saturday and a loss to Savannah State on Monday. Pope had 10 rebounds to go along with 26 points in the South Carolina State game, while grabbing six rebounds and blocking two shots to go along with 13 points in the Savannah State game.
Kelly (6-5, Fr., G, Long Island, N.Y.) had a career and near-career week as the Spartans posted wins over North Carolina Central and North Carolina A&T State. He tied a career high with five rebounds in the Central game and had a second-best career scoring game with 19 points in that contest while connecting on six of eight shots from the floor and two of two shots from 3-point range. Against the Aggies, he scored two points while grabbing three rebounds.

Malik Maitland (B-CU) averaged 19.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in a win over South Carolina State on Saturday and a loss to Savannah State on Monday. His big game was a 29-point, three-assist and two-rebound night against the Bulldogs.
Justin Ravenel (FAMU) averaged 19.0 points, 1.5 rebounds and one assist while connecting on 13 of 23 shots from the floor (56.5 pct) and 10 of 18 shots from 3-point range (55.5 pct) as the Rattlers defeated Savannah State before falling to South Carolina State.
RJ Cole (HOW) averaged 23.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.5 steals as the Bison dropped games at the hands of North Carolina A&T State and North Carolina Central.
Derrik Jamerson (NSU) averaged 16.0 points and 5.0 rebounds while hitting 10 of 12 shots from 3-point range (83.3 pct.) and 10 of 14 shots from the floor (71.4 pct) in wins over North Carolina Central and North Carolina A&T State.
