BOCA RATON, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman Softball came from behind to take down Virginia, 5-4 in nine innings on Friday afternoon inside FAU Stadium, as the Wildcats split a pair of games in the 2019 season-opening First Pitch Classic hosted by Florida Atlantic University.

Bethune-Cookman scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning in order to rally past the Virginia Cavaliers for a 5-4 win in the Wildcats' second game of the day as part of the First Pitch Classic hosted by Florida Atlantic at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton, Florida.

GULF SHORES, Ala. – Florida A&M closed out play in the 2019 Sand Dollar Collegiate Softball Classic here Sunday with a pair of tough decisions, a 10-2 morning loss to Auburn, followed by a 4-3 early afternoon setback at the hands of Tennessee State.
Auburn: Tyra Bowers' two-run single in the bottom of the third scored Shakayla Nixon and Kaylin Rhone, putting FAMU on the board after they fell behind, 4-0 after two innings.
Tennessee State: FAMU logged six hits, with Day, Rosier, Blasingane, Nixon, Hera Varmah and Jamari Ridley each recording singles. Ridley and Blasingane each had an RBI for the Rattlers, who, who led 1-0 after two innings until TSU pushed across three runs in the top of fourth for a 3-1 lead.

La. – A 4-3 walk-off win over MEAC Southern Division foe North Carolina Central secured win number one for the 2019 Howard Bison softball team, as well as etching head coach Tori Tyson's first career victory into the books.
"Earning my first career win as a head coach was very special," Tyson said. "Seeing the hard work the student-athletes and coaching staff have put in, payoff, truly was a jubilant moment. The future is very bright for Howard softball."
The Eagles held a 3-0 lead early before the Bison scored four unanswered runs to capture the non-conference win over the 2018 MEAC tournament semifinalists.

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The University of Maryland Eastern Shore softball team dropped two games on Friday (Feb. 8) in the Charleston Southern University Tournament. The Hawks fell 14-0 to Dayton and 5-1 to the host Charleston Southern.
Eastern Shore struggled to get things going in their first game of the season against Dayton. The Hawks committed five errors in the game which led to the Flyers scoring seven unearned runs.

ZACHARY, La. — After suffering a 4-3 walk-off loss to Howard University early Saturday morning, the North Carolina Central University softball team was unable to regain composure in a 13-2 loss to Prairie View A&M University in its second game of the day to conclude play at the Chef Celeste Bistro Softball Challenge hosted by Southern University.
Howard: The Eagles held a 3-0 lead before the Bison scored four unanswered runs to rally for the non-conference w win between the two Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) members.
An RBI-single by junior Dalika Wallace highlighted NCCU's scoring in its three-run third inning. Powell started the frame with the first of her two singles and she scored the opening run.
Prairie View A&M: The reigning Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) champions run-ruled NCCU with 13 runs on 11 hits, two walks one error and four Panthers hit-by-pitches.
Freshman third baseman Megan Jimenez drove in five runs to pace the victors, including a two-run double in the first along with a two-run single and a bases-loaded walk both in the third. PVAM (2-0) scored 10 runs in the third.

STATESBORO, Ga. – In what will be their last season in Division I, the Savannah State softball team opened their 2019 season by participating in the Bash In The Boro. The game were held at Eagle Field on the campus of Georgia Southern.
SSU lost their opening game to Winthrop 7-1.
Winthrop scored a run in the first inning and added five more in the second for a 6-1 advantage.
UT Martin: Savannah State fell to St. Francis (Pa.) in the Bash In The Boro, held at Eagle Field on the campus of Georgia Southern, by a score of 7-1.
Against St. Francis, SSU scored in the first inning and were shut out the rest of the contest.
Stacie Smith reached base on a throwing error by the pitcher, stole second and scored after Jakayla Sullivan doubled to right field.
The Red Flash, which scored a run in the bottom of the first inning, scored three runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

NORFOLK, Va. – Freshman Makenna Heimann hit a double toward the right field corner to drive in the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh of game 2, and the Norfolk State softball team split a pair of games against Delaware on Friday night.
In both teams' season opener, the Blue Hens tallied three unearned runs in game 1 to win 3-1, scoring two runs in the top of the sixth to break a 1-1 tie. But then in the second contest, the Spartans raced out to a 7-0 lead after three innings, only for Delaware to score five runs in the next two innings and then two more in the seven to tie the game up.
Heimann, however, finished a 3-for-3 game with her double with two outs for an 8-7 win at the NSU Softball Field.
