MEAC Announces Weekly Softball Honors

NORFOLK, Va. - Feb. 11, 2019–Maryland Eastern Shore’s Breana Florez was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon. Bethune-Cookman’s Kaira Cabato and Destiny Enriquez were selected as Rookie and Pitcher of the Week, respectively.
 
Florez (IF, Sr., Houston, Texas) finished the weekend with a .444 batting average while going 4-for-9 at the plate with two doubles and an RBI. She also scored a run over the weekend. In the game against Charleston Southern, she was 2-for-3 at the dish with an RBI.
 
Enriquez (P, Jr., Norwalk, Calif.) went 1-0 last weekend, with her first win of the season coming against Virginia. For the weekend, she worked 5.0 innings with six strikeouts allowing just four runs and six hits in the contest against the Cavaliers. She finished the weekend with a 1.40 ERA.
 
Cabato (IF/UTL, Fr., Bremerton, Wash.)
recorded a .200 batting average with two hits, two doubles and three stolen bases over the weekend. In the Wildcats’ win against ACC foe Virginia, Cabato had a key double for Bethune-Cookman.
 
Other Top Performers
Cheyenne Smith (B-CU) recorded a .375 batting average with six hits, two runs, two stolen bases and an RBI last week at the First Pitch Classic.

LeeAnn Hayes (FAMU) finished the weekend with a 6.87 ERA with 17.1 innings pitched with five strikeouts.
 
Shakayla Nixson (FAMU) had a batting average of .364 with four hits in 13 at-bats and she drove in two runs.
 
Kimiya Watkins (FAMU) had two hits, scoring two runs with a triple and an RBI with two stolen bases over the weekend.
