Box Score

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. –
A shorthanded Bethune-Cookman squad took four of five singles matches to stun Stetson 4-3 Wednesday afternoon at City Island Tennis Center.

Juan Navarro's 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 victory over Collin MacNamara at No. 5 singles lifted the Wildcats, who fielded just five players, to their first victory in 2019.

Stetson (1-2) was ahead 2-0 thanks to needing just one win to take the doubles point and a forfeit at No. 6 singles, then went ahead 3-1 with Clint Hamel's win at No. 2 singles.

Phillip Lynch and Jose Plazas tied the match with victories at No. 3 and No. 4, setting the stage for Navarro.

"That was an epic come from behind win for these athletes, said B-CU head coach Val Villucci. "They showed maturity and resiliency, which I'm confident is going to continue to help us throughout this season. It was a proud moment for us to beat a quality and talented team such as Stetson."

Victor Bravo won his match at No. 1 singles to improve to 2-0 on the season.
