Women's Basketball Returning from Holiday, Preparing for Finals

2019-20 MEAC Women's Basketball Statistics | MEAC Women's Basketball Notes

With the Thanksgiving holiday in the rearview mirror, and fall finals forthcoming, Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) women's basketball will see an abbreviated schedule this coming week, with several teams playing just once -- and North Carolina A&T State being completely idle.

Bethune-Cookman still boasts the MEAC's best record so far this season, despite suffering its first loss of the season this past weekend against Troy. The defending MEAC Tournament champion Wildcats are 4-1 on the season, and they will hit the road to face Jacksonville before returning home to take on Palm Beach Atlantic.

Norfolk State, fresh off victories this past week against North Florida and Jacksonville, returns home this week to take on Longwood -- before crossing the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel to reignite the Battle of the Bay against former MEAC rival Hampton.

The Spartans' Chanette Hicks -- who has been named MEAC Player of the Week each of the last three weeks and is a two-time Defensive Player of the Week already in 2019-20 -- leads the MEAC in scoring (21.1 ppg), assists (5.3 apg) and steals (5.6 spg).

Hicks leads the nation in steals per game, and she is also 10th nationally in points per game and 35th in assists per game.

Coppin State, boasting the reigning MEAC Rookie of the Week in Marley Grenway, will visit South Dakota this week, taking on South Dakota State and South Dakota as the Eagles search for their first win. Delaware State will look to get back into the win column this week, when the Hornets play host to Saint Peter's.

Florida A&M will hit the road to face a pair of SWAC schools -- Mississippi Valley State and Alcorn State -- and Howard will look to rebound by playing host to Fairleigh Dickinson.

The Bison's Jayla Thornton ranks eighth in the nation in 3-pointers made with 25 so far this season. Her 3.1 made threes per game are the best in the MEAC.

Maryland Eastern Shore, fresh off its win over Greensboro College on Tuesday, will play host to Richmond before hitting the road over the weekend to take on Old Dominion. Morgan State, meanwhile, will hit the road to take on Hofstra.

North Carolina Central will play host to FIU before hitting the road to take on North Carolina. South Carolina State will look to get back in the win column at UNC Asheville.
