MEAC Men's Basketball Gearing Back up Post-Thanksgiving

NORFOLK, Va., Dec. 3, 2019—
Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) teams will be back in action for week five of the 2019-20 season, with the Thanksgiving holiday in the rearview mirror. This week features a number of intriguing match-ups, including games against nationally-ranked opponents, Power Five schools and former MEAC member Hampton.
 
North Carolina Central will take on Georgia and Florida A&M will travel to Tennessee on Wednesday, while Morgan State will host local foe Towson, Delaware State will play Loyola and Norfolk State will hit the road to take on Southern Illinois on Wednesday.
 
Howard and Norfolk State will renew their respective rivalries with former MEAC member Hampton this week. Howard will visit the Pirates in the Battle of the Real HU on Thursday, with Norfolk State and the Battle of the Bay following on Saturday.
 
North Carolina A&T State will visit Bradley on Saturday and Bethune-Cookman will travel to Jacksonville.
 
Cletrell Pope of Bethune-Cookman was named MEAC Co-Player of the Week after scoring 20 points and pulling down 19 boards in the Wildcats’ near-upset over Georgia Tech. Aaron Robinson of Coppin State was named MEAC Co-Player of the Week after scoring 20 points on seven-of-12 shooting, including six-of-10 from behind the arc as the Eagles defeated James Madison. He averaged 15.5 points, five boards, and two steals per game for the week.
 
Pope was also named the MEAC Defensive Player of the Week for the fourth straight week and Joe French of B-CU was named Rookie of the Week.
 
For the first time since the 1996-97 season, Coppin State has won three games against Div. I non-conference teams, as the Eagles defeated James Madison 94-78, for their second straight win.
 
Howard’s CJ Williams scored 13 points against Mount St. Mary’s to become the all time leading scorer in program history (1,953 points). He breaks the record previously held by James Daniel III. He moves into sixth place in MEAC history.
 
Delaware State’s John Crosby has scored 20 or more points in four games this season. He leads the MEAC in scoring at 18.9 points per game.
 
Pope logged his 29th career double-double against Georgia Tech, finishing with 20 points and 19 boards.
