NORFOLK, Va., Dec. 31, 2019—
Norfolk State redshirt senior Chanette Hicks and
North Carolina Central senior Paulina Afriyie were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week, the conference office announced today.
Florida A&M’s Alaina Rice was named Rookie of the Week, while
Hicks also earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Hicks (G, 5-6, r-Sr., Norfolk, Va.) had a monster game against Richmond, dropping a career-high 31 points on 15-for-25 shooting, while also grabbing a team-high eight steals, seven rebounds (six defensive) and dishing out five assists. It was her second 30-point game of the season.
Afriyie (F, 5-11, Sr., Bronx, N.Y.) was key in helping the Eagles erase a 16-point deficit and defeat Long Island, dropping a career high-tying 25 points (21 of which came in the second half) and grabbing nine rebounds. She was 10-for-14 (.714) from the floor.
Rice (G/F, 5-9, Fr., Rockledge, Fla.) tied for the team lead in scoring against LSU with 11 points, while also grabbing three rebounds and three steals. She was 5-for-11 from the floor.

Morgan Beacham (B-CU) had nine points, three assists and two steals against Central Michigan.
Amaya Scott (B-CU) dropped 13 points against Central Michigan.
Marley Grenway (CSU) scored 11 points against Cincinnati.
Sharajah Collins (DSU) scored 21 points – 14 in the second half – to go along with five rebounds, five assists and two steals against Rider.
Jasmine Ballew (FAMU) had 11 points against LSU.
Makayla Minett (HOW) had nine rebounds and two steals against Tennessee.
Le’on Hill (NCAT) blocked two shots against VCU.
Jayla Jones-Pack (NCAT) dropped 20 points on 8-for-10 shooting in a road win over VCU.
Taylor Brown (SCSU) had 15 points and seven rebounds against Coastal Carolina.
Brooklyn Bailey (UMES) dropped 14 points against Charlotte.
