MEAC Announces Weekly Men's Basketball Honors

NORFOLK, Va., Dec. 3, 2019 Coppin State graduate guard Aaron Robinson and Bethune-Cookman senior forward Cletrell Pope have been selected as this week’s MEAC Co-Players of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday. For the fourth straight week, Pope is also the league’s Defensive Player of the Week, while teammate Joe French, a freshman guard, is the league’s Rookie of the Week.
 
Robinson (G/F, 6-6, Grad., Takoma Park, Md.) led the Eagles to a 94-78 win over James Madison, scoring 20 points on 7-for-12 shooting from the floor (58.3 percent), including 6-for-10 from 3-point range (60 percent). He also had four rebounds and two assists in that win. For the week, Robinson averaged 15.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals.
 
Pope (F, 6-9, Sr., Northport, Ala.) led the Wildcats to a near upset over ACC foe Georgia Tech on Sunday in Atlanta, Ga. In the narrow 68-65 loss, Pope scored 20 points while grabbing 19 rebounds to go along with two assists, two steals and two blocked shots.
 
French (G, 6-5, Fr., Orlando, Fla.) scored 10 points and grabbed two rebounds in B-CU’s loss to Georgia Tech. He connected on 75 percent of his shots from the floor (3-for-4), along with 66.7 percent of his shots from 3-point range (2-for-3).
 
Other Top Performers
Andrew Robinson (CSU) averaged 14.0 points and 9.0 rebounds as the Eagles defeated James Madison before falling to Montana. In the win over JMU, he had a double-double, scoring 18 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
 
Lance Singh (DSU) posted averages of 19.0 points and 1.5 rebounds as the Hornets fell to the College of Saint Elizabeth and Coastal Carolina. His top outing included 24 points on 61.9 percent shooting against Coastal Carolina.
 
Jibri Blount (NCCU) averaged 22.0 points. 9.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 3.0 assists in losses to Southern Illinois and Wofford.
 
Jermaine Bishop (NSU) averaged 13.3 points and 6.3 rebounds in losses to Caldwell, Monmouth and Niagara. He scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the Niagara game.
