NORFOLK, Va., Dec. 17, 2019—
Howard senior Sarah Edmond and
Morgan State senior Chelsea Mitchell were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week, the conference office announced today.
North Carolina A&T State senior Le’on Hill earned Defensive Player of the Week honors. There was no Rookie of the Week honor this week.
Edmond (G, 5-9, Sr., Freeport, N.Y.) shot a combined 53.8 percent from the floor (14-for-24) in wins over Niagara and East Carolina, averaging 21.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game. She was 9-for-12 from the floor and five 3-pointers against Niagara, dropping 25 points to go along with six rebounds, four assists and two steals. In the East Carolina game, Edmond fell one rebound shy of a double-double, scoring 17 points while grabbing nine boards (to go along with four assists and four steals).
Mitchell (G, 5-9, Sr., Columbia, Md.) recorded a double-double in Morgan State’s overtime loss to UMBC, dropping 23 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. She was 11-for-23 (.478) from the floor in that contest, and Mitchell was also strong on the defensive end, grabbing six steals and recording a block. Mitchell leads the conference in double-doubles so far this season with four.
Hill (F, 6-2, Sr., Columbia, S.C.) averaged 11.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game for the Aggies in contests against UNC Greensboro and Akron. Of her 22 rebounds for the week, 16 came on the defensive end, and she racked up 11 boards in both contests. Hill also blocked two shots in each game, and she also added a steal in the win over crosstown foe UNC Greensboro.

Cinia McCray (NCAT) scored 17 points in a win over UNC Greensboro.
Chanette Hicks (NSU) dropped 24 points to go along with five assists and three steals against nationally-ranked West Virginia.
Amanda Carney (UMES) had 25 points and seven rebounds in a win over Mount St. Mary’s.
