NCAT's Brewer Earns AVCA Regional Honorable Mention

North Carolina A&T State junior Edie Brewer became the first Aggie to receive American Volleyball Coaches Association honor, as the AVCA released its all-region teams on Tuesday with Brewer being named all-South Region honorable mention.

"We are so happy for Edie and very proud of her for being selected to the AVCA All-Region team," said N.C. A&T coach Hal Clifton said. "She is very deserving and it's nice to see others recognize her efforts this year. There are so few players at the DI level that can do what Edie can do. She is an excellent setter, but yet she excels at hitting and passing as well as defense. Eight triple-doubles is no fluke."

Brewer has received numerous awards this season for her play on the court. She was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Co-Player of the Year and first-team All-MEAC.She also received five MEAC weekly awards including four Player of the Week honors, was named to the MEAC All-Tournament Team and was recently named First Team All-State by the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA).

Brewer set career highs in almost every single category this season. She recorded 321 kills, 654 assists and 289 to go along with a .268 hitting percentage. They were all career-best. She also posted 75 total blocks.

She ranked seventh in the MEAC in assists per set (5.74), eighth in kills per set (2.79) and eighth in hitting percentage. Brewer also averaged 2.51 digs and 0.64 blocks this season.

In her career, Brewer ranks fourth in assists (1,877), seventh in service aces (108), eighth in blocks assists (143) and 10th in kills (618). Brewer helped the Aggies to their first MEAC Southern Division title since 1998 and their first postseason bid in school history with a trip to the National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC) last week in Atlanta.

The Aggies also won a school-record 13 conference matches this season after going 13-1 in the MEAC.
