NORFOLK, Va., Dec. 10, 2019—
Norfolk State redshirt senior Chanette Hicks and
Delaware State junior Sharajah Collins were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week, the conference office announced today.
Bethune-Cookman’s Tatum Hayes earned Rookie of the Week honors, while
Hicks also earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Hicks (G, 5-6, r-Sr., Norfolk, Va.) continued her torrid start to the season, averaging 22.5 points, 6.5 assists, 6.0 rebounds and 5.0 steals per contest and shooting a combined 17-for-31 (.548) from the floor in wins over Longwood and Hampton. She was 8-for-10 from the floor against the Lady Pirates, dropping 22 points to go along with eight assists, five rebounds and four steals. Against Longwood, she scored 23 points and grabbed seven rebounds and six steals, while also dishing out five assists.
Collins (G/F, 5-7, Jr., Winter Haven, Fla.) was 11-for-15 from the floor (.733), dropping 25 points as Delaware State picked up the home win over Saint Peter’s on Saturday. She also had four rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals in the contest.
Hayes (G, 5-7, Fr., Fort Myers, Fla.) averaged 13.5 points and shot 50.0 percent from the floor (9-for-18) in helping the Lady Wildcats to wins over Palm Beach Atlantic and Jacksonville. She hit a combined nine 3-pointers, going 52.9 percent from distance, and she drained six threes against Jacksonville, pouring in 18 points. She also had three treys against Palm Beach Atlantic, and for the week, all of her field goals were for three.

Ashanti Hunt (B-CU) nearly recorded a double-double against Palm Beach Atlantic without scoring, grabbing nine rebounds and dishing out nine assists.
Amaya Scott (B-CU) had 19 points and 13 rebounds against Jacksonville.
Alexandra Hamilton (CSU) dropped 10 points against No. 24 South Dakota.
Aliyah Lawson (CSU) scored 14 points against South Dakota.
Jalynda Salley (CSU) grabbed 15 rebounds against South Dakota State.
Jasmine Ballew (FAMU) dropped 21 points, hitting five 3-pointers, against Mississippi Valley State. Eighteen of those points came in the second half.
Alaina Rice (FAMU) had 13 points against Mississippi Valley State, hitting three 3-pointers.
Ayonna Williams (HOW) had 17 points, seven rebounds and four assists in a win over Fairleigh Dickinson.
Chelsea Mitchell (MSU) had 16 points on 7-for-12 shooting, to go along with six rebounds and our steals, against Hofstra.
Taylor Brown (SCSU) dropped 20 points against UNC Asheville.
