MEAC Football Week 11: Conference's Top Teams Hit the Road

NORFOLK, Va., Nov. 6, 2019—
North Carolina A&T State and Bethune-Cookman are tied atop the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) standings, and though they don’t meet until next week, the Week 11 slate still features some intriguing match-ups – including the Aggies heading to Baltimore, Md. to face Morgan State (who defeated North Carolina A&T State in Greensboro, N.C. last season). The Wildcats will hit the road to take on Delaware State, while Howard visits South Carolina State and North Carolina Central will celebrate Homecoming by taking on Norfolk State.
 
 
North Carolina A&T State Aggies (6-2, 4-1 MEAC) vs. Morgan State Bears (1-8, 1-5 MEAC)

North Carolina A&T State’s Kylil Carter had a career day in the Aggies’ 22-20 win over South Carolina State this past Saturday. He set career highs in passing yards (267), completions (21), passing attempts (38) and total offense (340). Jah-Maine Martin reached 1,000 yards on the season and became the ninth different Aggie to do so in the last 10 seasons. The Aggies have had a 1,000-yard rusher in seven straight seasons. Morgan State was held to just 153 yards of total offense in a 48-0 loss to Norfolk State this past Saturday. The Aggies have won three of the last five meetings with the Bears, although Morgan State won last year’s meeting 16-13 in a game that did not count toward the conference standings.

Howard’s Kyle Anthony became the program’s leader in career receptions with 187 after catching nine passes for 57 yards in a 28-6 loss to North Carolina Central this past Saturday. De’Montrez Burroughs had a career day with eight catches for 168 yards and a touchdown in the Bulldogs’ 22-20 loss to North Carolina A&T State, including a strike over the middle from quarterback Corey Fields. The two schools have split the last six meetings, with the Bison winning last year’s matchup 27-21 in Washington, D.C.
Norfolk State Spartans (3-6, 2-3 MEAC) vs. North Carolina Central Eagles (4-5, 3-2 MEAC)

Norfolk State’s Juwan Carter and Nhyre’ Quinerly were named MEAC Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, for their efforts in the Spartans’ 48-0 win over Morgan State this past weekend. Quinerly had nine tackles and pick-six, which was the first defensive touchdown of the season for the Spartans, in helping Norfolk State pitch its first shutout since 2012. On offense, Carter accounted for 340 yards and four touchdowns. He completed 16 of 28 passes for 314 yards and three touchdowns, while adding seven carries for 26 yards and a score. Davius Richard threw for 214 yards and a touchdown in the Eagles’ 28-6 win over Howard this past weekend, and Isaiah Totten added 77 yards rushing and a touchdown. Norfolk State has won five of the last six meetings between the two schools, including a 36-6 win last season. This will be North Carolina Central’s Homecoming.
Bethune-Cookman Wildcats (6-2, 4-1 MEAC) vs. Delaware State Hornets (1-8, 0-6 MEAC)

Delaware State’s Thomas Bertrand-Hudon ran for a career-high 120 yards and two touchdowns in the Hornets’ 52-30 loss to Florida A&M this past Saturday. Bethune-Cookman, which is tied atop the MEAC standings with North Carolina A&T State, is coming off a bye week. The Wildcats have won six of the last seven meetings, including a 41-10 victory last season.
