NORFOLK, Va., Nov. 4, 2019Morgan State sophomore Zoe McBride was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week, the conference office announced today. Coppin State’s Paola Caten was named Rookie of the Week, while North Carolina A&T State senior Makaylah Elliott and Morgan State junior Jennevy Santos each earned Defensive Specialist of the Week honors and Morgan State senior Roi Wallace was named Setter of the Week.
 
McBride (6-0, So., OH/RS, Ridgefield, Wash.) had three double-doubles in three matches this past week, leading the Lady Bears to a 3-0 mark. Averaging 6.2 kills and 3.7 digs per set, McBride opened the week with 24 kills and 14 digs in a win over Coppin State, and she followed that with an 18-kill, 10-dig performance as Morgan State handed Howard its first MEAC loss of the season. She ended the week with 20 kills and 13 digs against Norfolk State, hitting .325.
 
Caten (5-11, Fr., OH, Tampa, Fla.) recorded her second and third career double-doubles in three matches this past week, hitting a combined .250 and averaging 2.8 kills and 2.3 digs per set. She opened the week with 10 kills and 12 digs against Morgan State, and she ended the week with a career-high 20 kills and 10 digs, hitting .313 in a five-set loss against Howard.
 
Elliott (6-0, Sr., MB, Charlotte, N.C.) was a force at the net for North Carolina A&T State in its road match against rival North Carolina Central, racking up seven block assists to go along with four digs as the Aggies picked up the four-set win and wrapped up the Southern Division regular-season title.
 
Santos (5-4, Jr., DS, Bayamon, Puerto Rico) averaged 5.3 digs per set in three matches this past week – including a pair of 20-dig performances. The first came against Coppin State in a midweek conference match, and she matched that number again on Sunday in a win over Norfolk State to give her seven matches of at least 20 digs this season. In Friday’s three-set win over Howard, Santos recorded 13 digs.
 
Wallace (5-9, Sr., S, San Dimas, Calif.) averaged 12.6 assists per set this past week, and she opened the three-match slate with a double-double (her fourth of the season) against Coppin State – where she recorded 51 assists and 10 digs. She had 36 assists in Friday’s sweep of Northern Division leader Howard, and Wallace followed that up on Sunday with 39 assists in a three-set win over Norfolk State.
 
Other Top Performers
Kortney Curtis (B-CU) had 31 assists against South Carolina State.
 
Alleah Dallas (B-CU) had six kills against South Carolina State.
 
Shayla Eugene (B-CU) recorded nine digs in a win over South Carolina State.
 
Jordan Jefferson (B-CU) recorded her 1,000th career dig against South Carolina State and had 15 for the match.
 
Miajavon Coleman (CSU) recorded a double-double (15 kills, 11 digs) against Howard, and also had 19 kills against Norfolk State.
 
Brianna Lang (CSU) had 54 assists against Howard.
 
Ashley Roman (CSU) racked up 25 digs against Howard and 18 against Norfolk State.
 
Freja Gortz (DSU) racked up 50 assists, eight digs and two service aces against Maryland Eastern Shore.
 
Maria Yvette Garcia (FAMU) had 19 kills against Alabama State and 18 against South Carolina State.
 
Semira Blair (HOW) recorded a double-double (33 assists, 10 digs) against Coppin State.
 
Jurnee Tipton (HOW) had 14 kills and 10 digs, hitting .333 against Coppin State.
 
Tamar Wells (HOW) recorded 10 kills and seven blocks against Coppin State.
 
Edie Brewer (NCAT) had 25 assists, 10 digs and four blocks against North Carolina Central.
 
Addy Warfield (NCAT) recorded a double-double (19 assists, 15 digs) against North Carolina Central.
 
Bojana Bolozan (NSU) had eight kills against Coppin State.
