MEAC Announces Weekly Women's Basketball Honors

NORFOLK, Va., Nov. 26, 2019Norfolk State redshirt senior Chanette Hicks and Howard senior Sarah Edmond were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week, the conference office announced today. Maryland Eastern Shore’s Makayla Adams earned Rookie of the Week honors, while Morgan State senior Chelsea Mitchell earned Defensive Player of the Week honors.
 
Hicks (G, 5-6, r-Sr., Norfolk, Va.) averaged 23.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 4.0 steals per game in two contests this past week, going a combined 18-for-44 (.409) from the floor. In a win over High Point, she had 25 points on 10-for-20 shooting, while dishing out five assists, grabbing four rebounds and a pair of steals. Against La Salle, Hicks had 22 points, six steals, four rebounds and three assists.
 
Edmond (G, 5-9, Sr., Freeport, N.Y.) shot a combined 56.5 percent (13-for-23) from the floor in two games for the Bison this past week, leading the way in wins over Loyola (Md.) and Hofstra. She dropped 20 points against Loyola (Md.) to go along with five assists, shooting 6-for-10 from the floor and hitting four 3-pointers. She followed that up with a double-double against Hofstra, racking up 18 points and 10 rebounds, going 7-for-13 from the floor. For the week, Edmond went 6-for-14 (.429) from behind the arc.
 
Adams (F, 5-10, Fr., Bowie, Md.) averaged 12.0 points a game in contests against Virginia Tech and East Carolina this past week, going a combined 10-for-21 (.476) from the floor and hitting four of her 11 3-pointers. She had 13 points against the Hokies, hitting five of her 10 field goals – including three 3-pointers. She had 11 points against East Carolina to go along with five rebounds.
 
Mitchell (G, 5-9, Sr., Columbia, Md.) grabbed nine rebounds – all on the defensive end – and snatched four steals in Morgan State’s 57-52 win over Marshall this past week. It was the first time the Lady Bears have defeated the Conference USA program in four meetings.
 
Other Top Performers
Danielle Hatcher (B-CU) had 18 points against Georgia Southern and 12 against FIU.
 
Tatum Hayes (B-CU) dropped 13 points against Georgia Southern.
 
Amaya Scott (B-CU) grabbed 10 boards and a pair of steals in a win over FIU.
 
Tyree Allen (CSU) had eight points and seven rebounds against West Virginia.
 
Chance Graham (CSU) recorded a double-double (22 points, 13 rebounds) against Marshall.
 
Jalynda Salley (CSU) blocked a pair of shots against Marshall.
 
Dahnye Redd (MSU) dropped 19 points on 6-for-10 shooting against Marshall.
 
C’coriea Foy (NCAT) had 17 points, six rebounds and four assists against Arkansas State.
 
Alexus Lessears (NCAT) had six rebounds and two blocks against Arkansas State.
