2019 MEAC Volleyball Championship Bracket | Championship Central
NORFOLK, Va., Nov. 18, 2019—Howard and North Carolina A&T State earned the top seeds in the Northern and Southern Divisions for this weekend’s 2019 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Championship.
Howard finished 14-1 in MEAC play this season, and the Bison head into the tournament with a 17-12 overall record, having won 15 of their last 17 matches. Morgan State went 10-5 in league play to claim the division’s No. 2 seed, and Coppin State will be the No. 3 seed after going 8-7 in MEAC action.
Maryland Eastern Shore and Delaware State both went 7-8 in MEAC play to tie for fourth in the division, but the Hawks claimed the No. 4 seed by virtue of winning both regular-season matches against the Hornets.
Delaware State and Norfolk State (2-13) did not qualify for the championship.
North Carolina A&T State, which fell in last year’s title match to Howard, went 13-1 in conference play this season, claiming the Southern Division’s No. 1 seed. North Carolina Central went 7-7 in MEAC play this season and will be the Southern Division’s No. 2 seed.
Bethune-Cookman, at 5-9 in league play, will be the Southern Division’s No. 3 seed. South Carolina State will make its first tournament appearance since 2015, claiming the division’s No. 4 seed with Florida A&M being ineligible for the conference title and postseason play.
Only the top four teams in each division are eligible to compete in the single-match elimination tournament.
The 2019 MEAC Volleyball Championships will be held Friday through Sunday in Burr Gymnasium on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. Competition begins on Friday at 11 a.m. with the first quarterfinal match. Saturday’s semifinals will start at 5 p.m., and Sunday’s championship finale will be at 8 p.m. and broadcast live on ESPNU and ESPN3.
Admission for the tournament is $10 each day and $25 for all three days.
