MEAC Announces Weekly Volleyball Honors

NORFOLK, Va., Nov. 18, 2019Morgan State sophomore Zoe McBride was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Player of the Week, the conference office announced today. Coppin State’s Ashley Roman was named Rookie of the Week, while Bethune-Cookman senior Shayla Eugene earned Defensive Specialist of the Week honors and North Carolina Central sophomore Celene Morris was named Setter of the Week.
 
McBride (6-0, So., OH/RS, Ridgefield, Wash.) averaged 4.6 kills and 2.4 digs per set, hitting a combined .259 in two matches as the Lady Bears closed out the regular season. She closed out the year with a double-double against Delaware State, racking up 16 kills and 14 digs, hitting .382 and tallying three blocks. On Friday against Maryland Eastern Shore, she had 16 kills, three service aces and a block.
 
Roman (5-5, Fr., L, Isabela, Puerto Rico) averaged 4.1 digs per set for the Eagles in two matches this past week. She opened with 16 digs on Friday against Delaware State, and she followed that up on Sunday with a 17-dig effort against Maryland Eastern Shore. She has recorded double-digit digs in 17 straight matches, dating all the way back to September.
 
Eugene (5-4, Sr., DS, Fort Worth, Texas) set two Bethune-Cookman program records on Sunday against North Carolina Central. Her 39 digs in that contest were the most in a single match in program history, and she also set the Wildcats’ new single-season dig record – surpassing the mark Jordan Jefferson set just last season. With 17 additional digs against North Carolina A&T State, Eugene averaged 7.0 digs per set for the weekend.
 
Morris (5-8, So., S, Rockford, Ill.) recorded double-doubles in both of the Eagles’ matches this past weekend to close out the regular season, a key part of North Carolina Central winning both matches and locking up the Southern Division’s No. 2 tournament seed. She had 43 assists and 13 digs on Friday against Florida A&M, and she followed that up on Sunday with a 58-assist, 12-dig effort against Bethune-Cookman. Those 58 assists against the Wildcats were a career high.

Faith Landreneaux (B-CU) had 11 kills and five blocks against North Carolina Central.
 
Ryleigh Taylor (B-CU) had 24 assists against North Carolina Central.
 
Paola Caten (CSU) recorded a double-double (16 kills, 12 digs) against Delaware State.
 
Semira Blair (HOW) racked up 49 assists and dix digs against Norfolk State.
 
Ana Williams (HOW) had six total blocks against South Carolina State.
 
Kailyn Williams (HOW) had 19 kills and 11 digs against Norfolk State.
 
Jennevy Santos (MSU) had 17 digs against Maryland Eastern Shore.
 
Roi Wallace (MSU) racked up 40 assists against Delaware State and 36 against Maryland Eastern Shore.
 
Edie Brewer (NCAT) had eight kills, 20 assists and 10 digs against Bethune-Cookman.
 
Fatimah Shabazz (NCAT) recorded four blocks against Bethune-Cookman and three against Florida A&M.
 
Addy Warfield (NCAT) had 10 assists and six digs against Florida A&M.
 
Ammaarah Williams (NCCU) had 16 kills on .415 hitting against Bethune-Cookman.
 
Bojana Bolozan (NSU) had six blocks against South Carolina State.
 
Anna Rupertova (NSU) racked up 17 kills and 17 digs against Howard.
