Eastern Shore Falls To Morehead State

MOREHEAD, Kentucky — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore men’s basketball team fell to the Morehead State University Eagles 76-53 on Saturday evening (Nov. 16).

“We are disappointed in our toughness and execution tonight and that’s something we are going to discuss,” head coach Jason Crafton said. “We have a big week ahead with high major opponents and will need to respond with better effort and focus.”

The game was going back and forth for the first 12 minutes of the contest, then the Eagles would go on a 24-2 run in the next seven minutes to create separation and would not look back. They would take a 46-25 lead into the locker room.

In the second half, the Hawks were outscored by just two points. The two teams traded runs throughout the final 20 minutes before the game ended. The Hawks would get their big run late in the game when they went on a 13-6 spurt. Redshirt senior Ahmad Frost (Cincinnati, Ohio) went 5-5 and scored all of his team-high 13 points during that span.

Maryland Eastern Shore was led all game by AJ Cheeseman (Snellville, Ga.). The senior has had a bit of a slow start to the season, but he had his first double-double in a Hawks uniform Saturday. He finished with 10 points and a career-high 11 rebounds. Freshman Bruce Guy (Cordova, Tenn.) scored 10 points for the third straight game.

Eastern Shore will now travel to the west coast to face Stanford on Tuesday (Nov. 19). The game will be at 10 p.m. eastern. After that the squad travels to Oklahoma for a game on Thursday (Nov. 21) with the Sooners.
