DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Daniella Hatcher scored 15 points as Bethune-Cookman downed Edward Waters 79-46 in its 2019-20 season opener Thursday night in Moore Gymnasium.
Tatum Hayes added 14 and Ashlie Howell 10 as the defending MEAC tournament champions scored the first seven points en route to a 25-15 first-quarter lead. Hatcher, who sat out last season, connected on all six field goal and three free throw attempts.
Senior Armani Walker's nine points and six rebounds paced the returners. In her first game back after missing all but two games last season due to injury, Ashanti Hunt had six points in 10 minutes.

Norfolk State 123, Virginia University of Lynchburg 48
NORFOLK, Va. -- Chanette Hicks posted the first triple-double in Norfolk State's Div. I history, and La'Deja James, Armani Franklin and Shekinah Howard scored career highs in the Spartans' 123-48 victory over Virginia University of Lynchburg on Thursday night at Echols Hall.
Hicks had the triple-double in the bag by the end of the third quarter, recording her 10
th steal and 10
th steal all in the same sequence with 2:07 remaining in the third. Hicks finished the game with 20 points to go along with 14 assists and 11 steals. Her 14 assists also tied the Spartans' Div. I record for assists in one game.
The Spartans' last triple-double was back in 1996, when Michelle Sessoms posted 16 points, 14 rebounds and 11 steals against St. Paul's College.
James finished the game with a career-high 29 points, shooting 10-for-14 from the field and going 5-for-8 from behind the arc.

Nebraska 78, Morgan State 55
LINCOLN, Neb. -- Jihayah Chavis led three Morgan State players in double figures with 14 points Thursday evening, and Dahnye Redd had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, but the Lady Bears fell 78-55 to Nebraska in Pinnacle Bank Arena.
