2019-20 MEAC Women's Basketball Statistics | MEAC Weekly Women's Basketball Notes
The 2019-20 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) women's basketball slate is in the middle of its second week -- which will be highlighted by the season debut of the league's defending tournament champion.
Bethune-Cookman, which last year won its first MEAC Tournament title since 1984, will open its season at historic Moore Gymnasium on Thursday, squaring off against Edward Waters. The Wildcats were picked to finish second in the MEAC this season and boast Preseason First Team All-MEAC selection Ashanti Hunt.
Morgan State and Delaware State are both 2-1 to open the season following the Hornets' 67-64 win over in-state rival Delaware earlier this week -- which marked the first time in 12 meetings that Delaware State has beaten the Blue Hens.
This past Saturday saw Howard defeate UMBC on the road for its first win of 2019-20, while South Carolina State outlasted Charleston Southern in overtime -- thanks to a double-double from Taylor Brown and 31 points from Henaiya Moton.
Brown shared MEAC Player of the Week honors with Howard's Ayonna Williams, while Morgan State's Ja'Niah Henson was named Rookie of the Week. Her teammate Chelsea Mitchell shared Defensive Player of the Week honors with Howard's Jayla Myles.
Other wins in the season's first week were Maryland Eastern Shore over Wesley College, Morgan State over Notre Dame of Maryland and Washington Adventist and MEAC preseason favorite North Carolina A&T State over Johnson & Wales.
