The 2019 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) volleyball regular season concludes this weekend, with teams still jockeying for position in the upcoming conference tournament -- all while the favorites are already solidified and looking for momentum heading into the postseason.
Howard and North Carolina A&T State have already locked up the top seeds out of the Northern and Southern Divisions, respectively. Both teams have only one conference loss this season, and Howard (13-1) closes its season on Friday against South Carolina State.
Morgan State currently sits second in the Northern Division at 9-4, with Coppin State slotted in third at 7-6. If the Eagles win out this weekend, they lock up the North's No. 3 seed -- leaving Maryland Eastern Shore and Delaware State to fight over the division's fourth spot.
Norfolk State (1-13) has been eliminated from postseason play.
The Hawks and Hornets are currently tied for fourth at 6-7, but Maryland Eastern Shore holds the tiebreaker by virtue of sweeping the season series. But if the Hornets win out this weekend and the Hawks suffer one loss, then Delaware State will make its first tournament appearance since 2010.
North Carolina A&T State (11-1), seeking its first-ever MEAC tournament championship, will close out the regular season this weekend against Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman. North Carolina Central, at 6-6, sits second in the division, followed by Bethune-Cookman (5-7) and South Carolina State (0-12).
The Eagles and Wildcats will determine this weekend which teams gets the South's No. 2 seed.
With Florida A&M ineligible for the MEAC championship and postseason play, the Bulldogs will make their first tournament appearance since 2015.
The 2019 MEAC Volleyball Championship will be held at Howard's Burr Gymnasium in Washington, D.C. Nov. 22-24. The championship match will be broadcast live on ESPNU at 8 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24.
