2019-20 MEAC Men's Basketball Statistics | MEAC Weekly Men's Basketball Notes
The second week of the 2019-20 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) men’s basketball season will see two games against nationally-ranked opponents. North Carolina A&T State will travel to face No. 17 Utah State on Friday, while North Carolina Central takes on No. 4 Louisville on Sunday.
The schedule also features several other good games, including a match-up between Delaware State and Georgia on Friday. The MEAC and Mid-American Conference (MAC) will square off three times this week, starting with Coppin State taking on Northern Illinois and North Carolina Central visiting Akron on Friday.
Howard faces Toledo on Sunday.
Maryland Eastern Shore visits Morehead State and Morgan State will face George Washington on Saturday, and Coppin State will wrap up its week against Northern Kentucky on Sunday.
North Carolina Central’s Randy Miller, Jr. was named MEAC Offensive Player of the Week after dropping a career-high 29 points in the Eagles’ 73-64 win over USC Upstate this past Monday. He averaged 20 points during the Eagles’ two games last week.
Bethune-Cookman’s Cletrell Pope, the Preseason Player of the Year, was named MEAC Defensive Player of the Week after averaging 12.7 points, 11.7 boards, 2.3 assists, 2.7 blocks, and 1.7 steals per game. He had 19 rebounds, five blocks, and a steal in the Wildcats’ 110-68 season opening win over Johnson University (Fla.).
Norfolk State’s Yoro Sidibe was named MEAC Rookie of the Week after averaging 11 points, nine boards, and 1.5 steals per game. He helped the Spartans win both of their games against Greensboro College and Penn State Wilkes-Barre.
There were several milestones achieved this past week. Coppin State defeated Loyola-Chicago, 76-72, on Tuesday, marking the Eagles’ first win against a non-MEAC Div. I school since Dec. 11, 2013, when they defeated UMBC.
North Carolina Central’s Jibri Blount had career highs in points (16) and rebounds (19) against USC Upstate as the Eagles won their 10
th straight home opener.
