2019-20 MEAC Bowling Statistics | MEAC Weekly Bowling Notes
Eight of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference’s (MEAC) 11 bowling squads will be in action this weekend, with six of them converging in Greensboro, N.C. for a tournament honoring a North Carolina A&T State legend.
Coppin State, Delaware State, Howard, Maryland Eastern Shore and UAB will join North Carolina A&T State for the Vern Stallings Aggie Invite at the AMF Lanes in Greensboro, N.C. The tournament will honor Stallings, who coached the Aggies to three titles in the late 1990s before women’s bowling was fully sponsored as a MEAC sport.
Meanwhile, Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman – both of whom opened their 2019-20 seasons this past weekend -- will participate in the Hornet Classic hosted by Alabama State in Montgomery, Ala.
This past weekend saw all 11 MEAC bowling teams in Glen Burnie, Md. for the MEAC #1 meet. Maryland Eastern Shore, ranked No. 7 in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) Preseason Top 25, won the event with a perfect 12-0 weekend – and overall, the Hawks have won their last 23 matches.
Maryland Eastern Shore’s Brigitte Jacobs was named MEAC Bowler of the Week for the second time this season, while teammate Brooke Roberts earned Rookie of the Week honors.
Delaware State, preseason No. 15, came in second followed by No. 25 Monmouth. North Carolina A&T State, No. 8 in the preseason poll, came in fourth.
Following the first MEAC meet of the season, the top eight teams are Maryland Eastern Shore, North Carolina A&T State, Delaware State, Monmouth, UAB, Howard, Coppin State and Florida A&M. The top eight teams after MEAC Meet #2 (Feb. 21-23) will advance to the 2020 MEAC Bowling Championship.
