NORFOLK, Va., Nov. 12, 2019—
Howard senior Ayonna Williams and 
South Carolina State senior Taylor Brown were selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week, the conference office announced today. 
Morgan State’s Ja’Niah Henson earned Rookie of the Week honors, while 
Howard redshirt junior Jayla Myles and 
Morgan State senior Chelsea Mitchell shared Defensive Player of the Week honors.
 
Williams (G, 5-4, Sr., Washington, D.C.) averaged 16.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2.0 assists per game in helping the Bison open the season 1-1. For the week, Williams was 11-for-25 (.440) from the floor and she made five of her eight 3-pointers. She had 18 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals in the season opener against La Salle, going 4-for-5 from distance, and she added 14 points, four steals and three rebounds in a win over UMBC.
 
Brown (F, 6-0, Sr., Paterson, N.J.) had a monster game against Charleston Southern, a game the Lady Bulldogs won in overtime. She recorded her first double-double of 2019-20 with 19 points and 15 rebounds, while also dishing out four assists. On top of going 7-for-14 from the floor and 5-for-7 from the free throw line, Brown also recorded a block and a steal in the victory.
 
Henson (G, 5-3, Fr., Baltimore, Md.) had her best game of the young season on Monday agai9nst Washington Adventist, dropping 10 points on 3-for-6 shooting, hitting two of her three 3-point attempts. She also had nine points, three assists and three steals in the Lady Bears’ win over Notre Dame of Maryland, and for the week, Henson averaged 8.3 points, 2.0 steals and 2.0 assists per contest.
 
Myles (F/C, 6-2, r-Jr., Rochester, N.Y.) averaged 4.0 blocks and 8.0 rebounds per game this past week, and of her 16 rebounds for the week, nine came on the defensive end. Her best game of the week came against UMBC, when she blocked five shots and grabbed 11 rebounds. Myles also had three blocks and five rebounds in the season opener against La Salle, and she had a steal in each game.
 
Mitchell (G, 5-9, Sr., Columbia, Md.) averaged 4.7 steals per game in helping the Lady Bears to a 2-1 mark this past week, including a pair of six-steal efforts. After opening the 2019-20 campaign with a pair of steals against Marquette, Mitchell had six steals to go along with 11 rebounds (seven defensive) and a blocked shot against Notre Dame of Maryland – before recording six more steals against Washington Adventist.
 
Other Top Performers
Oluwadamilola Oloyede (CSU) grabbed nine rebounds and went 4-for-5 from the floor against Rutgers.
 
Marley Grenway (CSU) hit two 3-pointers against Rutgers.
 
Ashia McCalla (MSU) dropped 31 points against Notre Dame of Maryland, hitting five 3-pointers.
 
C’coriea Foy (NCAT) had nine rebounds and five steals against Johnson & Wales.
 
Deja Winters (NCAT) had 17 points and nine rebounds against N.C. State, before dropping 19 points and grabbing seven rebounds against Johnson & Wales.
 
Chanette Hicks (NSU) scored 18 points each in losses to Liberty and Marshall.
 
La’Deja James (NSU) had three steals against Marshall and a pair of swipes against Liberty.
