MEAC Announces Weekly Men's Basketball Honors

NORFOLK, Va., Nov. 12, 2019—The first men’s basketball weekly superlatives of the season were released by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) on Tuesday and 6-2 senior guard Randy Miller of North Carolina Central is this week’s MEAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. Meanwhile, senior forward Cletrell Pope of Bethune-Cookman is the Defensive Player of the Week and freshman guard/forward Yoro Sidibe of Norfolk State is the Rookie-of-the-Week.
 
Miller (G, 6-1, Jr., Odenton, Md.) paced the Eagles to a 1-1 week, posting averages of 20.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists. In a win over South Carolina Upstate, he tallied 29 points to go along with three assists and two rebounds. In the Eagles’ loss to Stephen F. Austin, Miller scored 12 points with four rebounds, one assist and one steal.
 
Pope (F, 6-9, Sr., Northport, Ala.), in a 1-2 week for the Wildcats, was a defensive force, averaging 11.7 rebounds, 2.7 blocked shots and 1.7 steals. His best outing came against Johnson (Fla.), when he totaled 19 boards, five blocks and one steal. He also averaged 12.7 points with 2.3 assists per game on offense.
 
Sidibe (G/F, 6-7, Fr., Dakar, Senegal) averaged 11.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals as the Spartans defeated both Greensboro College and Penn State Wilkes-Barre during the past week.  His top outing came against Greensboro, a game in which he scored 17 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to go along with three steals.
 
Other Top Performers
Isaiah Bailey (B-CU) averaged 14.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists in three games over the week. He had 24 points and seven rebounds in the Wildcats’ victory over Johnson (Fla.).
 
Joe French (B-CU) averaged 14.3 points for the week, including 24 points in a win over Johnson (Fla.) and 19 points in a loss to Omaha.
 
Kamar McKnight (CSU) sveraged 15.0 points and 2.5 rebounds as the Eagles lost to Rider and Virginia Tech. His top game was against Rider, when he scored 24 points with four rebounds.
 
Rod Melton (FAMU) poured in 27 points against South Dakota and averaged 11.0 points a game for the Rattlers.
 
Stanley Davis (MSU) averaged 12.0 points with 6.0 rebounds as the Bears defeated Central Pennsylvania and lost to Temple.
 
Ron Jackson (NCAT) posted averages of 15.0 points and 8.5 rebounds in a week that saw the Aggies defeat Charleston Southern and lose to UNC Greensboro.
 
Jibri Blount (NCCU) had a 16-point, 19-rebound double-double in the Eagles’ win over USC Upstate. In a loss to Stephen F. Austin, he had 10 points with six boards.
 
Jermaine Bishop (NSU) averaged 13.0 points, 4.5 assists and 2.5 rebounds. His top performance included 15 points, six assists, four rebounds and three steals in a win over Penn State Wilkes-Barre.
