SMYRNA, Del., Oct. 26, 2019—Norfolk State edged North Carolina A&T State by placing four runners in the top five to take the 2019 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) men’s cross country title on Saturday at the Delaware State Outreach & Research Center.
The Spartans had 25 points to the Aggies’ 40. Norfolk State won its first title since 2017 and 13
th overall.
Meshack Kipchirchir, who came into the meet with the MEAC’s best 8K time, won individual gold in 25:03.44 to be named the race’s Outstanding Performer. Evans Cheruiyot (25:09.81) and Lelei Too (25:24.50) completed a Spartans sweep of the top three.
Bethune-Cookman’s Carlin Berryhill, the 2018 individual champion, was fourth in 25;26.14, while Anteneh Girma (25:48.48) of Norfolk State completed the top five.
The Aggies took spots six through 10 in the running order, led by Regan Kimtai with a 25:49.92.
Maryland Eastern Shore was third in the team standings with 122 points, followed by Howard (145) and Morgan State (163) to round out the top five.
Norfolk State head coach Kenneth Giles was named Outstanding Coach.
The top 15 finishers were named All-MEAC.
