EAST GREENSBORO – There are not too many true freshmen who can play for a defense North Carolina A&T head coach Sam Washington is associated with.
Freshman linebacker Jacob Roberts is their exception. Saturday afternoon he showed why. In first-ever Greatest Homecoming on Earth, Roberts recorded 15 tackles, three sacks and had six tackles for loss as the Aggies obliterated Howard University 64-6 in front of a sellout crowd of 21,500 at BB&T Stadium.
The win gives the Aggies (5-2, 3-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), the 18
th-ranked team in the nation, their ninth straight homecoming win. The Aggies have won by an average margin of 32.4 points in those nine victories. Howard dropped to 1-7 on the season and 1-3 in the MEAC.
Roberts and the Aggies defense held Howard to 173 yards of offense. Senior Chris Moseley had two interceptions, and Howard freshman quarterback Quinton Williams was sacked six times.
“He was a one-man wrecking crew,” said N.C. A&T coach Sam Washington about Roberts' performance. “Since the first day I told him, there’s only one other freshman who has played for me. He has made me proud ever since that moment. I’m expecting much more from him.”
Roberts, who made his first career start last week at Florida A&M, is third on the team in tackles with 45. He made plays in the open field, in Howard’s backfield and on special teams on Saturday.

DURHAM, N.C. – After Delaware State University tied the score with less than a minute left in regulation, North Carolina Central University freshman Brandon Codrington returned the ensuing kickoff 75 yards for the game-winning touchdown, as NCCU beat the Hornets 30-23 on Saturday inside O’Kelly-Riddick Stadium.
Delaware State had a chance to respond to Codrington’s heroics, moving the ball to the NCCU 25-yard line, but NCCU junior defensive back Bryan Mills’ interception at the 4-yard line ended the threat and sealed the victory. The pick was the fourth of the season for Mills and the 13
th interception by the Eagles.
NCCU freshman quarterback Davius Richard threw for 174 yards and two touchdowns, connecting with sophomore Treveyon Pratt for 74 yards in the second quarter and junior Ryan McDaniel for 20 yards in the third quarter.
NCCU junior running back Isaiah Totten collected a team-high 41 yards on the ground to become just the eighth player in school history to reach 2,000 career rushing yards – now with 2,008.

BALTIMORE | The Florida A&M University football team, ranked No. 20 nationally, didn’t need any late-game heroics on Saturday afternoon as the Rattlers extended their win streak to seven games with a 24-12 victory over Morgan State in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) game at Hughes Stadium.
On a cool dreary day, Rasean McKay started in replace of Ryan Stanley at quarterback and the redshirt freshman went 25 of 35 passing, with one touchdown and one interception. He completed passes to six different receivers as the Rattlers picked up the road victory.
After both teams traded punts to begin the game, Morgan State broke the early 0-0 tie as E’Munn Parker caught a 27-yard touchdown pass from DeAndre Harris to give the Bears a 7-0 lead with 9:21 left in the opening period.
Florida A&M (7-1 overall, 5-0 MEAC) responded with a 10-play, 70-yard drive as backup quarterback Rasean McKay completed a 3rd-and 13 to Xavier Smith for a first down, and two plays later, Davonne Kendrick scored on a 3-yard run, tying the game at 7 with 5:26 remaining in the first quarter.
After a big defensive stop on fourth down, the Rattlers marched 33 yards in seven plays as Yahia Aly booted a 50-yard field goal to give FAMU a 10-7 lead just four seconds into the second quarter.
Florida A&M’s defense accounted for its next touchdown.
