MEAC Announces Weekly Volleyball Honors

NORFOLK, Va., Oct. 21, 2019North Carolina A&T State junior Edie Brewer and Morgan State sophomore Zoe McBride were named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Volleyball Co-Players of the Week, the conference office announced today. North Carolina Central’s Alyssa Pieh was named Rookie of the Week, while Morgan State junior Jennevy Santos earned Defensive Specialist of the Week honors and Morgan State senior Roi Wallace was named Setter of the Week.
 
Brewer (6-0, Jr., S/RS, West Chester, Ohio) recorded yet another triple-double – her sixth of the season – on Friday in a five-set win over Maryland Eastern Shore. In that match, she had 12 kills, 26 assists and 13 digs, while hitting .290 and adding a pair of aces. She followed that up on Sunday with a 13-assist, eight-kill effort in a sweep of Delaware State, and for the week, Brewer averaged 4.9 assists, 2.5 kills and 2.1 digs per set, and she hit a combined .255 as the Aggies remained unbeaten in league play.
 
McBride (6-0, So., OH/RS, Ridgefield, Wash.) averaged 5.2 kills and 2.7 digs per set as Morgan State went 2-1 this past week, hitting .226 across those three matches. Her best performance of the week came against Bethune-Cookman on Friday, when she had 25 kills and 15 digs to go along with two aces and a block. She followed that up on Sunday by hitting .396 against Florida A&M, racking up 26 kills and falling two digs shy of another double-double. She also had an ace and two blocks in that match.
 
Pieh (5-7, Fr., DS/S, Raleigh, N.C.) had two double-digit dig matches for the Lady Eagles this past week, and she was strong in the service game as well. After opening the week with eight digs against The Citadel, Pieh added 14 against Elon – before racking up 10 digs to go along with a career-high six aces in a five-set win over Delaware State. She had four more aces on Sunday in a win over Maryland Eastern Shore.
 
Santos (5-4, Jr., DS, Bayamon, Puerto Rico) averaged 6.2 digs per set for the Lady Bears in three matches this past week. After opening the week with 17 digs against Norfolk State, she racked up a career-high 34 digs in a five-set win over Bethune-Cookman (her second 30-dig match this season), and Santos wrapped up the week with 23 digs against Florida A&M.
 
Wallace (5-9, Sr., S, San Dimas, Calif.) averaged more than 10 assists per set as Morgan State went 2-1 this past week – including road victories against Bethune-Cookman and Florida A&M. She was strong in that road trip, racking up 52 assists in both matches during the Florida swing. On Sunday, she added 12 digs against Florida A&M for her third double-double of the season.
 
Other Top Performers
Shayla Eugene (B-CU) had 18 digs against Coppin State and 15 against Morgan State.
 
Jordan Jefferson (B-CU) recorded 10 kills and 24 digs against Morgan State.
 
Bailey Robinson (B-CU)  had 11 kills and five digs against Morgan State.
 
Ryleigh Taylor (B-CU) recorded double-doubles against Morgan State (37 assists, 13 digs) and Coppin State (24 assists, 11 digs).
 
Paola Caten (CSU) recorded 11 kills and 11 digs against Bethune-Cookman.
 
Miajavon Coleman (CSU) racked up 24 kills against Florida A&M and had a double-double (11 kills, 11 digs) against Bethune-Cookman.
 
Brianna Lang (CSU) had 45 assists and 11 digs against Florida A&M.
 
Ashley Roman (CSU) racked up 24 digs against Florida A&M.
 
Semira Blair (HOW) had 23 assists and seven digs against Norfolk State.
 
Kira Porter (HOW) hit .471 against Norfolk State and recorded nine kills.
 
Fola Wilson (HOW) had six digs and five aces against Norfolk State.
 
Andrea Laboy-Rivera (NCAT) racked up 21 digs against Maryland Eastern Shore.
 
Addy Warfield (NCAT) recorded a double-double (14 assists, 10 digs) against Delaware State.
 
Celene Morris (NCCU) recorded double-doubles in all four matches played this past week.
 
Yomaries Villegas (NCCU) had 23 digs against Delaware State and 17 against Maryland Eastern Shore.
 
Julisa Carrizosa (NSU) had eight kills and 19 digs against Morgan State.
 
Myleah Carter (NSU) racked up 21 digs against Morgan State.
 
Tatjana Trifkovic (UMES) had 18 kills against Delaware State and 17 against North Carolina Central.
