MEAC Volleyball: Howard, NCAT Emerging as Favorites

MEAC Weekly Volleyball Notes | 2019 MEAC Volleyball Statistics

With two weeks of conference play in the books, the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) volleyball race has seen two favorites emerge, as Howard and North Carolina A&T State -- the two teams that went for the title a season ago -- are atop their respective divisions.

Howard is leading the Northern Division at 5-0 and is on a five-match winning streak after recording wins the past seven days over Delaware State, Maryland Eastern Shore and Morgan State. North Carolina A&T State, which defeated Coppin State and Morgan State this past weekend, is 4-0 atop the Southern Division.

Delaware State and Coppin State are both 2-2, ties for second in the Northern Division, while Morgan State sits in fourth at 2-3.

Bethune-Cookman and North Carolina Central are also 2-2 in league play, tied for second in the Southern Division. South Carolina State, despite being winless on the season, sits fourth in the standings and is assured a spot in the 2019 MEAC Volleyball Championship given Florida A&M's ineligibility.

After this past weekend, North Carolina A&T State's Edie Brewer -- who recorded her fourth triple-double of the season against Coppin State -- and Coppin State's Christa Johnson -- who went error-free in three matches last week -- were named MEAC Co-Players of the Week.

Delaware State's Jordan Vang repeated as Rookie of the Week, and her teammate Jelena Dukic was named Setter of the Week. North Carolina A&T State's Shaylynn Hall and Bethune-Cookman's Shayla Eugene shared Defensive Specialist of the Week honors.
