MEAC Announces Weekly Men's Basketball Honors

NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 29, 2019—Junior guards Nic Thomas of Norfolk State and Charles Williams of Howard have been selected as this week’s Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Co-Players of the Week, presented by the U.S. Marines, it was announced today.  Meanwhile, junior forward Cletrell Pope of Bethune-Cookman is the MEAC Defensive Player of the Week and freshman guard Sherwyn Devonish-Prince, Jr. of Morgan State is the MEAC Rookie of the Week.
 
Thomas (6-2, r-Jr., G, Arlington, Texas) led the Spartans to an 88-60 victory over Maryland-Eastern Shore on Saturday, Norfolk State’s lone game of the week. He had a career-high 28 points and seven 3-pointers, helping NSU finish the game with a school-record 18 treys. Thomas hit eight of 13 shots from the field (.615) and seven of 11 from 3-point range (.636).
 
Williams (6-6, Jr., G, Richmond, Va.) helped the Bison pick up back-to-back wins for the first time since early November as he averaged 25.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.0 assist during the week. In Howard’s win over Delaware State, Williams scored 29 points to go along with three rebounds, one assist and one steal. Two nights later, in a 72-57 victory over Maryland Eastern Shore, he scored 21 points with four rebounds and one assist.
 
Pope (6-9, Jr., F, Northport, Ala.) became just the eighth player in the nation to post a 20/20 game when he scored 24 points and grabbed 22 rebounds in B-CU’s loss to Morgan State on Saturday. On Monday at Coppin State, Pope had another double-double, grabbing 16 boards while netting 14 points. He also made two steals and dished out one assist in that contest. Pope leads the nation with an average of 4.45 offensive rebounds a game and ranks 16th nationally with 7.65 defensive boards a game.
 
Devonish-Prince, Jr. (6-1, Fr., G, Bladenburg, Md.) scored 16 points (6-for-15 FG) with a pair of assists and two rebounds in Morgan State’s win over Bethune-Cookman on Monday. In a loss to Florida A&M, he had 12 points, three rebounds, two steals and two assists. For the week, he averaged 14.0 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steal.
 
Other Top Performers
Chad Andrews-Fulton (CSU)
posted a career-high 21 points along with nine rebounds against Florida A&M. He then grabbed another nine rebounds along with eight points, six assists and three steals against Bethune-Cookman.
 
Dejuan Clayton (CSU) averaged15.0 points and 7.0 assists for the weekend. Against Florida A&M, Clayton registered 16 points with seven rebounds.  Against Bethune-Cookman, he tallied 15 points and seven boards.
 
Justin Steers (CSU) had a career-high 17 points and seven rebounds, while connecting on six of nine field goals and all five free throw attempts against Bethune-Cookman.
 
Isaiah Martin (FAMU)
sparked the Rattlers to a win at Morgan State, registering eight blocked shots along with five rebounds and 11 points.
 
Justin Ravenel (FAMU) averaged 23.5 points to go along with 3.0 rebounds as the Rattlers posted wins over Coppin State and Morgan State. His top game included 28 points, three rebounds and one steal over Coppin State.
 
Ronald Jackson (NCAT) scored 16 points and snatched six rebounds as the Aggies remained undefeated in conference play thanks to a road win over North Carolina Central.
 
Randy Miller, Jr. (NCCU) had a pair of 20-plus games during the week, averaging 21.5 points while shooting at a 47.5 pace from the arc (7-for-15).  He connected on 53.8 percent from the field (14-for 26) and averaged 5.0 rebounds a game. He had 21 points against North Carolina A&T State and 22 points at Savannah State.
 
Raasean Davis (NCCU) grabbed 15 rebounds to go along with his 12 points and two blocked shots and one steal against North Carolina A&T State. He followed that up with 23 points, eight rebounds and two blocks at Savannah State.
