NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 22, 2019–Coppin State’s Lamar Morgan is this week’s Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week, presented by the U.S. Marines, while
North Carolina Central’s Raasean Davis earned MEAC Defensive Player of the Week honors and
M.J. Randolph of Florida A&M was named MEAC Rookie of the Week.
Morgan (6-6, Sr., G/F, Willingboro, N.J.) burned the nets for a career-high 35 points and matched a career high with eight 3-pointers North Carolina A&T on Monday. His 35 points in that game represented the most points scored by an Eagles player in nearly 20 years and the most by a MEAC player against a Div. I opponent this season. In Saturday’s 64-60 win at North Carolina Central, Morgan scored 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds. For the week, he averaged 25.0 points and 4.5 rebounds, while shooting 53.3 percent from the field and 50.0 percent from the 3-point range.
Davis (6-9, r-Sr. C, Chicago, Ill.) had key performances on both ends of the court for the Eagles over the weekend, posting double-doubles against Coppin State on Saturday and Morgan State on Monday, averaging 13.0 points and 14.0 rebounds. He had a huge game against the Bears, scoring 18 points and grabbing 18 rebounds. He also had 14 points with 10 rebounds against Coppin State. For the week, he blocked three shots and had two steals.
Randolph (6-4, Fr., G, Pensacola, Fla.) scored 12 points, grabbed nine rebounds, dished out five assists and grabbed three steals in two games for the Rattlers. He scored eight points with three steals and three assists in Saturday’s overtime loss to Maryland Eastern Shore, and he had four points, seven rebounds and two assists in Monday’s victory over Delaware State.
Other Top Performers
Soufiyane Diakite (B-CU) had 20 points, 10 rebounds, two blocked shots and two steals against Delaware State.
Mark Gordon (B-CU) averaged 22.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.5 assists as the Wildcats defeated Delaware State and Maryland Eastern Shore – including 27 points against the Hawks.
Justin Ravenel (FAMU) posted averages of 19.5 points and 4.5 rebounds in two games during the week, including a total of eight 3-pointers in 22 tries.
RJ Cole (HOW) averaged 19.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 1.3 steals during the week. Cole’s top performance was a 25-point, four-rebound effort in an overtime win at South Carolina State.
Tyler Jones (MDES) averaged 15.0 points on 68.4 percent shooting from the floor for the week as the Hawks defeated Florida A&M in overtime before falling to Bethune-Cookman.
Sylla Ibrahim (NCAT) had seven rebounds and three blocked shots to go along with his 11 points in an 80-71 win over Coppin State after blocking four shots and scoring 10 points against Morgan State.
Ronald Jackson (NCAT) scored 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds against Morgan State.
Larry McKnight Jr. (NCCU) scored a career-high 22 points with eight rebounds against Coppin State, before adding 15 points against Morgan State.
Jordan Butler (NSU) notched his 200th career block on Monday after garnering four blocked shots against South Carolina State.
Nic Thomas (NSU) averaged 20.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists during the week to help the Spartans remain undefeated in MEAC play.
