NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 2, 2019 – North Carolina Central redshirt senior Raasean Davis has been selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference office announced today. Meanwhile, Coppin State’s Cedric Council is the league’s Defensive Player of the Week, while Morgan State’s Sherwyn Devonish-Prince Jr. is the Rookie of the Week.
 
Davis (6-9, r-Sr., C, Chicago, Ill.) scored a game-high 34 points in his team’s 91-44 romp over Wilberforce, missing just one shot the entire night from the field (15-for-16), an impressive 93.8 percent clip.  It was the first 30-point scoring performance by a NCCU player since 2016. Davis made it a double-double after adding 11 rebounds to his stat sheet, to go along with one steal.
 
Council (6-8, Sr., F, Kennesaw, Ga.) had 17 rebounds to go along with 12 points in a close 63-56 loss on the road to Notre Dame.  Coppin led the Fighting Irish of the ACC by nine points with 9:53 left in the contest and held Notre Dame to a 29-percent shooting effort (9-for-32) in the second half. Council’s 17 rebounds, which sparked the Eagles’ defensive effort, are a career-high for the senior and the most by a Coppin State player since 2011.
 
Devonish-Prince Jr. (6-1, Fr., G, Bladenburg, Md.)
had a season-high 22 points on 7-for-16 shooting in a 94-86 loss to Cal State-Northridge. He added two assists and one steal in 22 minutes of action.
 
Other Top Performers
Dejuan Clayton (CSU)
scored a team-high 15 points in the Eagles’ Dec. 29 game at Notre Dame, to go along with four rebounds and three assists.
 
Kevin Larkin (DSU) led all players with 26 points and 11 rebounds in the Hornets’ game against Ball State.  He had a career-high four 3-pointers (4-for-8). It was his fifth double-double in the last six games.
 
RJ Cole (HOW) had an impressive night against crosstown foe Georgetown, scoring 28 points in the Bison’s loss to the Hoyas.  He also collected two rebounds, six assists and two steals in that contest.
 
Kamron Reaves (FAMU) led the Rattlers against Memphis with 20 points on 8-for-11 shooting to go along with two steals and one assist in 30 minutes.
 
Tyler Jones (MDES) scored 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the Hawks’ win over Chestnut Hill on Dec. 31. He added one blocked shot and one assist.
 
Malik Gantz (NCAT) had an all-around solid game against East Carolina, scoring 17 points for the Aggies while securing four rebounds, four steals, two assists and one blocked shot.
 
Jibri Blount (NCCU) put up a season-high 22 points while totaling six rebounds, two blocked shots and three steals in NCCU’s victory over Wilberforce.
 
Justin Butler (NSU) led the Spartans with 12 points and a pair of blocked shots in his team’s loss to Niagara on Dec. 29.
