MEAC Announces Weekly Women's Basketball Honors

NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 15, 2019—South Carolina State junior Taylor Brown was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week presented by the U.S. Marines, the conference office announced today. North Carolina A&T State’s Rayven Peeples earned Rookie of the Week honors, while Norfolk State junior Danyael Goodhope and North Carolina A&T State junior Mikaya Wilson were named Co-Defensive Players of the Week.
 
Brown (6-0, F, Jr., Patterson, N.J.) was a combined 16-for-26 (.615) from the floor in two games this past week and averaged a double-double with 20.0 points and 14.0 rebounds per contest. She opened the week with a 20-point, 10-rebound effort against Morgan State – a game in which she went 6-for-12 from the floor and added four steals. She followed that up on Monday with 20 points, 18 rebounds and six assists in a win over Coppin State, going 10-for-14 from the floor.
 
Peeples (6-2, F, Fr., Detroit, Mich.) went 7-for-11 from the floor in Saturday’s win at Delaware State, dropping 17 points and grabbing eight rebounds to go along with two assists in helping the defending champion Aggies remain unbeaten in MEAC play.
 
Goodhope (5-5, G, Jr., Norfolk, Va.) averaged 3.0 steals per game for the Spartans this past week, helping them remain undefeated in conference play. That included a five-steal performance on Monday in a 57-50 win over Bethune-Cookman, a contest in which she also grabbed five rebounds – four on the defensive end.
 
Wilson (5-6, G, Jr., Raleigh, N.C.) averaged 2.5 steals per game this past week, and her five steals against Maryland Eastern Shore on Monday helped the Aggies avoid the upset on the road. She also grabbed 10 boards in two games – nine of which came on the defensive end.

had seven points and four rebounds against Norfolk State.
 
Brooke Fields (CSU) had two 20-point games, dropping 24 against South Carolina State and 21 against Norfolk State.
 
Chance Graham (CSU) grabbed 10 rebounds against Norfolk State and had four steals against South Carolina State.
 
NaJai Pollard (DSU) dropped 31 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in a win over North Carolina Central.
 
Mya Moye (FAMU) had 10 points and three rebounds against Savannah State.
 
Dy’Manee Royal (FAMU) dropped 17 points and grabbed 10 boards against Savannah State.
 
Imani Bryant (HOW) grabbed 14 rebounds against Bethune-Cookman.
 
Sarah Edmond (HOW) had 25 points and eight boards against Bethune-Cookman.
 
Adre’onia Coleman (MSU) had 17 points and three blocks against South Carolina State.
 
Ashia McCalla (MSU) had 14 points and eight rebounds against South Carolina State.
 
Cinia McCray (NCAT) dropped 23 points against Delaware State.
 
Kendrea Dawkins (NSU) averaged 18.0 points and 8.5 rebounds in a pair of conference wins.
 
Jacquece Alston (SSU) had 11 points and 10 rebounds against Florida A&M.
