MEAC Announces Weekly Men's Basketball Honors

NORFOLK, Va., Jan. 15, 2019—The hot hands of senior guard Derrik Jamerson of Norfolk State not only kept his team undefeated in conference play, but it also earned him Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week honors in men’s basketball presented by the U.S. Marines, it was announced today.  Also earning individual honors this week are Morgan State junior guard Stanley Davis Jr., who captured MEAC Defensive Player of the Week, and Florida A&M freshman guard M.J. Randolph, who won MEAC Rookie of the Week honors.
 
Jamerson (6-5, Sr., G, Detroit, Mich.) had a week highlighted by a pair of career highs, as he averaged 19.5 points and 8.0 rebounds, propelling the Spartans to victories over Coppin State and Bethune-Cookman. His career highs were both in the win over B-CU, when he scored 26 points. Against the Wildcats, he went 7-for-11 from the field, including a dazzling 7-for-10 mark from 3-point range along with five rebounds, one assist and one steal. Against the Eagles, Jamerson had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, his second double-double of the season.
 
Davis (6-5, Jr., G, Chester, Pa.) pulled down a career-high 19 rebounds in Morgan State’s 72-68 loss to South Carolina State on Saturday. He also scored 28 points, also a career high, and added three assists and one steal. His 28-point, 19-rebound effort was his second double-double of the season. Of his 19 rebounds, 15 were on the defensive end.
 
Randolph, FAMU (6-4, Fr., G, Pensacola, Fla.) scored 11 points with three rebounds and two assists in the Rattlers’ 69-64 win over Savannah State on Saturday, FAMU’s only contest of the week. He went 3-for-9 from the floor and saw 28 minutes of action.
 
Other Top Performers
Cletrell Pope (B-CU) posted averages of 17.5 points and 11.5 rebounds in Bethune-Cookman’s win at Howard on Saturday and loss at Norfolk State on Monday. His back-to-back double-doubles included 13 points with 12 boards versus Howard, followed by 22 points and 11 rebounds versus Norfolk State, making it 10 double-doubles for the season.
 
Dejuan Clayton (CSU) averaged 19.0 points, 5.5 assists and 1.5 rebounds in losses to Norfolk State and South Carolina State. He put up 23 points against the Spartans and 15 points against the Bulldogs.
 
Justin Ravenel (FAMU) led the Rattlers in their win over Savannah State on Saturday, scoring 19 points on 7-for-16 shooting from the floor, including five 3-point shots in 12 tries.
 
RJ Cole (HOW) led the homestanding Bison with 20 points, four rebounds, five assists and one steal in a 71-63 loss to Bethune-Cookman. He connected on five of 13 shots from the field and 10 of 12 shots from the charity stripe.
 
Terry Harris (NCAT) hit 14 3-pointers in North Carolina A&T State’s victories over Delaware State and Maryland Eastern Shore, shooting at a 56-percent pace (14-for-25). In the two games, he averaged 18.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 1.5 assists.
 
Ibrahim Sylla (NCAT) scored 25 points in the Aggies’ 93-70 win over Delaware State and totaled five blocked shots and 16 rebounds in two games during the week.
 
Raasean Davis (NCCU) averaged 13.5 points and 6.0 rebounds as the Eagles collected wins over Maryland Eastern Shore and Delaware State. He had a perfect shooting night in Saturday’s win over UMES, going 12-for-12 from the floor and 1-for-1 from the line for 25 points, to go along with five rebounds and three blocked shots.
 
Jordan Butler (NSU) had 10 rebounds, three blocked shots and two steals as his Spartans beat Coppin State and Bethune-Cookman.
 
Damani Applewhite (SCSU) led the Bulldogs to wins on the road over Morgan State and Coppin State, averaging 13.0 points and 7.0 rebounds. He scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds against the Eagles on Monday after netting eight points and snatching seven rebounds against the Bears.
