Busy Third Week Sees 2018 MEAC Volleyball Season in Full Swing

The 2018 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) volleyball season is in full swing, with two weeks of action in the books. Three-time defending champion Howard has emerged as the best team in the early going, having gone 3-1 this past week to sit at 5-2 overall.

The Bison's only loss last week came to Stanford, which is No. 4 in the most recent national rankings. Howard then went to Beaumont, Texas this past weekend, posting wins over Texas Southern, Lamar and Southern to take the tournament crown. Fola Wilson was named MEAC Defensive Specialist of the Week, while Tamia Dockery shared Setter of the Week honors.

Morgan State also had a strong week, winning its home opener against Saint Peter's before also picking up a win over Niagara over the weekend. Cristen Coryatt, a junior outside hitter, was named MEAC Co-Player of the Week, while Roi Wallace shared Setter of the Week honors with Dockery and Zoe McBride was named MEAC Rookie of the Week.

Bethune-Cookman's Jordan Jefferson was also named MEAC Co-Player of the Week, recording two double-doubles in her three matches -- including an 18-kill, 21-dig performance in the Lady Wildcats' win over Saint Peter's.

Coppin State also defeated Saint Peter's this past week, before picking up a four-set win over Manhattan.

Norfolk State and Savannah State both opened their respective seasons this past weekend, going 0-4. North Carolina A&T State and South Carolina State each played only once last week; the Aggies suffered their first loss of 2018 at the hands of Elon, while the Lady Bulldogs fell in four sets to Charleston Southern.
