Hurricane Florence Forcing MEAC Schedule Changes

As Hurricane Florence continues its approach to the East Coast, the impending weather has forced several schedule shifts affecting Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) programs.

As of mid-morning Tuesday, Norfolk State's football game at Liberty, scheduled for Saturday, has been tentatively postponed until Dec. 1. If Norfolk State qualifies for postseason play -- be it the Celebation Bowl or the FCS playoffs -- that game will be canceled.

The North Carolina Central-South Carolina State football game has also been postponed, rescheduled for Nov. 24. The Savannah State-Howard contest, which would have kicked off at 1 p.m. on Saturday in Washington, D.C., has been postponed, with no make-up date yet determined.

Two of Tuesday's volleyball matches are off the docket; North Carolina Central's match against Charlotte has been postponed, with no makeup date yet announced, and South Carolina State's match at Campbell has been canceled.

North Carolina Central was also scheduled to compete in a tournament at Campbell this weekend, but that tournament has been canceled.

In addition, the UNC Wilmington invitational, in which South Carolina State was scheduled to play this Friday and Saturday, has been canceled. Norfolk State's volleyball program will not travel to Fairfax, Va. this weekend for the George Mason Invitational, and North Carolina A&T State will not travel to Spartanburg, S.C. for the Wofford Invitational.

Morgan State was slated to travel to Williamsburg, Va. this weekend for the Colonial Classic hosted by William & Mary, but that tournament has also been canceled.

The Norfolk State cross country programs also will not compete at U.Va. this weekend.

Maryland Eastern Shore has canceled the Cappy Anderson Invitational that was set for Saturday morning in Princess Anne, Md. Three other MEAC programs (Coppin State, Delaware State and Morgan State) were scheduled to participate in the meet.

Friday's adidas Cross Country Challenge in Cary, N.C., in which North Carolina A&T State and North Carolina Central were scheduled to compete, has been canceled.

Savannah State was set to compete in the Winthrop adidas Challenge on Saturday, but that meet has been postponed until Friday, Oct. 5.
