This coming week will mark the fourth week of Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) volleyball action in 2018, and Howard and Bethune-Cookman hold the conference's best record -- both teams sit at 5-5. Morgan State isn't far behind, sitting at 5-6 after a strong weekend in New Orleans.
In fact, both Bethune-Cookman and Morgan State went 3-1 this past weekend in the Big Easy, as both teams competed in the New Orleans Invitational. Morgan State's lone loss came in five sets to Bethune-Cookman, while the Lady Wildcats' lone defeat of the weekend came to New Orleans.
B-CU and Morgan State swept the MEAC weekly awards; for the second straight week, Morgan State's Cristen Coryatt and Bethune-Cookman's Jordan Jefferson were named Co-Players of the Week, and Zoe McBride of Morgan State repeated as Rookie of the Week. B-CU's Meraiah Hill earned Defensive Specialist of the Week honors after a record-setting performance at the net, and Roi Wallace was named Setter of the Week.
Elsewhere in the MEAC, Maryland Eastern Shore picked up its first three wins of the season in taking the Henson's Hawk Invite. The Lady Hawks defeated South Carolina State, St. Francis Brooklyn and former MEAC foe Hampton, each in straight sets, to improve to 3-6 on the season.
Delaware State defeated North Carolina A&T State for its first win of 2018, while Savannah State notched its first victory of the season after defeating Norfolk State in straight sets.
Howard will play host to No. 5 Penn State on Friday, setting up a rematch of last year's NCAA Tournament first-round matchup. This will be the second nationally-ranked opponent the Bison have played in Burr Gymnasium this season, joining Stanford.
