Former NSU Softball Player Eure Receives Navy Award

NORFOLK, Va. – Former Norfolk State softball player Brianeisha Eure was recognized by the Navy recently when she was awarded the annual DON IM/IT Excellence Award for Rising Star of the Year.

The award recognizes those who display visionary thinking, innovation and superior leadership skills in supporting the mission of the Department of the Navy Information Management/Information Technology (DON).

Eure is the information systems security manager (ISSM) for the Defense Health Agency (DHA) Enterprise Intelligence and Data Solutions (EIDS) Program Management Office (PMO). She works out of the Space and Navy Warfare Systems Center (SSC) Atlantic in Charleston, South Carolina.

In her capacity as the ISSM, she manages the architecture and infrastructure of more than 300 servers with services including multiple solutions of big data analytics, data visualizations, data warehousing, virtual desktops and web services.

Her work in significantly reducing Assured Compliance Assessment Solution software vulnerabilities, Security Technical Implementation Guide findings and open plan of action and milestone items allowed her to garner the award, according to the Navy.

Eure played for the NSU softball team from 2007-10. She was a three-time All-MEAC honoree, one of just two in program history, and was also named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Academic All-State Team as a senior. She finished her career in 2010 as the program's all-time record holder for hits with 179 and at bats with 595, marks that have since been passed.

Still the career leader in games played (196) and games started (195), Eure was a career .301 hitter with the Spartans. She scored 125 runs with 18 doubles, five triples, one home run, 55 RBI, 55 walks and 38 stolen bases during her time at NSU.

"I am extremely honored to receive this award, especially so early in my career with SSC Atlantic," Eure said in a Navy release. "It has been a thrilling experience to be able to deliver impactful results in such a short time frame supporting the DHA EIDS PMO. I could not have done it without the support of the integrated product team, my cyber team, and fellow 'SPAWARRIORS,' to include my mentor Sean Perryman."

Eure received both her bachelor's and master's degrees from NSU.
