QUANTICO, Va., May 9, 2018 – On May 2, Howard University head softball coach Lauren McCoy was selected to the 2018 United States Marine Corps Coaches Workshop. The four-day event (May 16-19) will take place in Quantico, Va.
The workshop provides coaches an opportunity to develop a culture of leadership within their teams.
"Discipline and leadership are the cornerstones of a successful program," McCoy said. "I am blessed to have been chosen to participate in this workshop. I have such tremendous respect and reverence for our armed services and feel incredibly honored to learn from them."
The event conducts leadership seminars and reaction courses while waking up and working out character and discipline development through marine corps martial art program.
The Marine Corps Coaches Workshop imparts Marine Corps leadership traits and principles designed to provide an example of the sequential training provided in Marine Corps Officer Candidate School (OCS).
The attendees will receive firsthand experience and participate in several activities designed to showcase the Corps approach to developing leadership through: talent evaluation; team building; and leading and following.
The purpose of the Marine Corps Recruiting Command Coaches workshop is to provide selected coaches an opportunity to learn how Marine Officers are recruited, screened and developed into leaders. The workshop also assists coaches in gaining an understanding of Marine Corps' leadership traits, principles and small unit leadership; something they can take back with them in order to foster a cultural of leadership among their student-athlete.
