GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Bill Hayes, legendary football coach at both North Carolina A&T State and Winston-Salem State, will be inducted into the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame on Friday as part of the 55th class at the Raleigh Convention Center.
Hayes is among a class of 15 set to be inducted.
The all-time winningest coach in Aggies football history, Hayes coached at North Carolina A&T State from 1988 to 2002. He won three MEAC titles with the Aggies, made two NCAA Div. I-AA (now FCS) playoff appearances and was the 1988 National Coach of the Year.
He also led the Aggies to an appearance in the 1991 Hertiage Bowl.
During his career, Hayes also coached at Winston-Salem State and served as Director of Athletics at his alma mater North Carolina Central (2003-07), before serving in the same capacity at Florida A&M for two years.
A 2014 inductee into the MEAC Hall of Fame, Hayes is also among the Class of 2018 for the Black College Football Hall of Fame.
