NORFOLK, Va. – Norfolk State senior shortstop Seana Moriarty earned Google Cloud Academic All-District® honors this week when the College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA) announced its academic accolades for softball.
Moriarty was one of four infielders and 11 players overall named to the District 3 team, which consists of players from the states of Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee. She will now be a candidate on the ballot for the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America® first and second teams to be released in June.
A native of Chesapeake, Va., Moriarty recently graduated with a 4.0 GPA in applied mathematics. She was a three-time NSU Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, in addition to earning spots on several other organizational academic teams. Moriarty was a member of the NSU Honors College, Chi Alpha Sigma, the NSU Math Club, DNIMAS (Dozoretz National Institute for Mathematics and Applied Sciences) and the Golden Key Honour Society during her time at NSU.
She also recently finished her playing career with the Spartans, having competed in all but one game during her four years with the program. She was a career .247 hitter with 79 runs, 113 hits, 23 doubles, eight home runs, 53 RBI and 50 walks. She also set the school's career record for sacrifice hits with 31 while also ranking 10th in career doubles.
Moriarty became the first NSU softball player to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District honors since her sister Alina Moriarty did the same in her senior year in 2015.
