ORMOND BEACH, Fla (May 11) – The Florida A&M Softball team broke a one-all tie with two runs in the top of the fifth on their way to a 6-1 victory over North Carolina Central, in the elimination final of the 2018 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Softball Championships Friday evening at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex.
Saturday’s final round will pit FAMU against rival Bethune-Cookman, with the Lady Rattlers needing to win two games from the Wildcats to claim their fifth straight MEAC title, a feat they managed in last year’s tournament.
Pitcher Kyaira Brown (16-11) went the distance in the elimination bout, holding NCCU (20-26) to one unearned run on three hits in seven innings, striking out four against no walks.
The Lady Rattlers finished the second game with 13 hits, sparked by Brown, who had a team-high three hits along with two RBI. Toni Anderson and Alexis Day each had two hits.
FAMU closed out the scoring in the top of the seventh, scoring three runs for the 6-1 final.
