North Carolina Central’s Ava Dolan was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Softball Player of the Week, the conference announced today. Florida A&M’s Kyaira Brown and Morgan State’s Stephanie Rundlett were named Co-Pitchers of the Week while Coppin State’s Nia Bowe and Howard’s Trinity Gibbs were selected as Co-Rookies of the Week.
Dolan (3B, So., Las Vegas, Nev.) batted .636 with 16 total bases, seven hits, five RBI and five runs scored last week for the Lady Eagles. She displayed a power surge from the plate with three home runs and a 1.456 slugging percentage. Sporting an on-base percentage of .733 while drawing four walks, Dolan opened the week with a homer at Campbell while finishing 2-for-3 with three runs and two home runs in a win over Bethune-Cookman. She concluded the series at Bethune-Cookman with six hits, four RBI, four runs scored and three walks.
Brown (P, Jr., Tallahassee, Fla.) finished with a 3-0 record for the second consecutive week. She opened the week with a complete game win at Troy in which she recorded four strikeouts. Two days later, Brown opened the home series versus North Carolina A&T State with a six-strikeout performance while allowing one earned run. She came on in relief and struck out three with no runs allowed in the nightcap on Friday before closing the series out on Sunday with a five-strikeout, four-hit outing as FAMU claimed 2-of-3 from the Aggies.
Rundlett (P, So., York, Maine) went undefeated (2-0) for the weekend with one win in a relief performance. She finished with a 1.35 ERA while striking out 16 and allowing only two earned runs. Rundlett opened the series at Norfolk State with 10 strikeouts before coming on in relief in Sunday’s comeback win with six strikeouts and no runs allowed in 3.1 innings of action.
Bowe (OF, Fr., Milford, Del.) batted .600 (9-of-15) along with three RBI and two home runs. She also was a threat on the bases with four stolen bases while also scoring four runs and combining for 15 total bases. Bowe went 3-for-4 with a homer at Rider while tallying five hits, four stolen bases and two RBI in the series split versus Howard.
Gibbs (OF, Fr., Kissimmee, Fla.) batted .750 (6-of-8) with three runs scored and three RBI. She also finished with a 1.250 slugging percentage, 10 total bases and four doubles in the series versus Coppin State.
OTHER TOP PERFORMERS
Giselle Alvarez (Morgan State) batted .500 with six runs, five hits, five RBI, two doubles and a triple in the series versus Norfolk State.
Alexis Bermudez (Bethune-Cookman) did double duty as she batted .333 with a pair of hits, a double and an RBI while striking out a pair of batters.
Destiny Enriquez (Bethune-Cookman) went 2-0 on the mound over the past week with three strikeouts. Opponents batted .208 against her on the week as she gave up just five hits in the two wins against NCCU.
Hunter Halford (Norfolk State) compiled a 1.17 ERA with three strikeouts in a contest versus Morgan State.
Kylee Lopez (Norfolk State) finished with a .625 (5-of-8) average while driving in three RBI and scoring twice.
Kayla Porter (Norfolk State) batted .333 with a double and run scored in the series against Morgan State.
Desiree Renteria (Howard) picked up a win in a relief performance at Coppin State.
Taylor Rosier (Florida A&M) hit .357 in five games last week while also driving in five RBI. Combined for three hits and three RBI in the series versus North Carolina A&T State.
Taylor Sherritt (Bethune-Cookman) batted at a .429 clip and drew three walks in addition to picking up 21 putouts and four assists in 26 total attempts at catcher.
