SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Four athletes from three Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) schools competed in the inaugural Dos Equis 3X3U National Championship at Bill Greehey Arena in San Antonio. The MEAC athletes held their own as they placed third overall in the event which was shown on ESPNU.
The Tournament featured three days of 3-on-3 basketball as 128 players represented 32 NCAA Division I conferences to compete for bragging rights with a $100k prize pool for the winning conference.
The teams were each comprised of four seniors that have exhausted their collegiate eligibility.
The MEAC’s 2017-18 Player of the Year Brandon Tabb represented Bethune-Cookman University, Artem Tavakalya represented Delaware State, while Desmond Williams and Marcus Barham each represented Florida A&M.
“It was a great experience and an honor to compete with the best seniors in this class, while meeting and creating new experiences with basketball,” said Tabb. “I was appreciative for them to allow me to be a part of this event and I really enjoyed myself and the environment.”
On March 31, the MEAC captured its first win of the tournament (21-17) against the WAC. On April 1, the MEAC defeated the West Coast Conference (WCC) 21-18, but fell short to the Big West Conference later that day in a 21-17 loss.
