South Carolina State, Morgan State to Clash for Men’s Tennis Crown

NORFOLK, Va., April 27, 2018—
The two top seeds in the men’s tennis bracket advanced to the championship round, winning their semifinal matches of the 2018 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Tennis Championships on Friday at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
 
South Carolina State defeated Norfolk State 4-1, while Morgan State upended Hampton 4-0.
 
The Bulldogs, who lost in the championship final last season to Florida A&M, took the doubles point before getting production from the bottom half of their singles lineup. Marcelo Rodriguez got the scoring started with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles, before Jakub Vitek defeated Andres Alcaraz 6-4, 6-2.
 
Aleksander Stupar’s 7-5, 6-2 win over Ignacio Guevel was the clincher.
 
In the other semifinal pitting two Northern Division foes against each other, Morgan State claimed the doubles point to take a quick 1-0 lead. From there, the Bears picked up singles wins at the No. 6, 5 and 4 spots to sweep the match.
 
Sebastian Lopez, Ogukhan Ceylan and Nihit Rawal were all victorious in singles play.
 
The men’s championship final will be on Saturday at 12 p.m. It will be free and open to the public.
