MEAC Announces Weekly Women's Tennis Honors

NORFOLK, Va., April 25, 2018North Carolina Central senior Jamie Rogers and Bethune-Cookman senior Matea Roki were named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women’s Tennis Co-Players of the Week, the conference office announced today. Bethune-Cookman’s Rehaana Butt was named Rookie of the Week.
 
Rogers (Sr., Cary, N.C.) closed out her collegiate career in the No. 1 singles position, defeating South Carolina State’s Andjela Mihajlovic 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 to earn the clinching point in the Eagles’ upset of the defending MEAC champions. Her 6-4 doubles win alongside Polina Sakharova, over Mihajlovic and Aleksandra Sredojevic helped North Carolina Central clinch the doubles point.
 
Roki (Sr., Toronto, Ontario) was dominant in helping Bethune-Cookman close out the regular season with a win over defending MEAC champion South Carolina State, winning her singles match 6-0, 6-0 against Andjela Mihajlovic in the No. 1 position. She also paired with Rehaana Butt for a 6-1 doubles win over Mihajlovic and Aleksandra Sredojevic.
 
Butt (Fr., Palm Harbor, Fla.) notched a dominant singles win in the No. 2 position against South Carolina State’s Andjela Vasic, 6-2, 6-2, in the No. 2 position in helping the Wildcats defeat the defending MEAC champion Bulldogs. She also teamed with Matea Roki for a 6-1 doubles win over Mihajlovic and Aleksandra Sredojevic.
 
Other Top Performers
Nathalie Finch (HOW) won all three of her singles matches this past week, defeating opponents from Delaware State, Maryland Eastern Shore and George Mason.
 
Kindha Nasef (HOW) won singles matches against Delaware State, Maryland Eastern Shore and George Mason to ride her singles winning streak to six.
 
Asmara Faluke (MSU) picked up a 6-2 doubles win, alongside Alexus Gill, against Maryland Eastern Shore.
 
Danielle Thompson (MSU) defeated Maryland Eastern Shore’s Sarah Adewumi 6-2, 6-2.
 
Polina Sakharova (NCCU) defeated South Carolina State’s Aleksandra Sredojevic 1-6, 7-5, 6-1.
 
Dajana Cvjetkovic (NSU) defeated Coppin State’s Tinashe Gwaze 6-1, 6-0 and Maryland Eastern Shore’s Sarah Adewumi 6-1, 6-2.
