Augusta Wins 2018 MEAC Men's Golf Championship

SAVANNAH, Ga., April 21, 2018
—Augusta University won its fourth straight Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Men’s Golf Championship on Saturday at Crosswinds Golf Club, finishing the three-day event with a score of 861 (292-288-281, 3-under).
 
The Jaguars, who have won the title in each of their four seasons as associate members of the conference, earned the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Div. I Men’s Golf Championships. The NCAA Div. I Men’s Golf Selection Show will air on Wednesday, May 2 at 5:30 p.m. on Golf Channel.
 
Augusta’s Alex Shead, who was the 36-hole leader, took home the individual title after shooting a 3-under 69 on Saturday – following up on Friday’s low of 67. Shead had three straight birdies on the front nine – on two, three and four – and he also birdied the 15th.
 
Shead’s teammate Broc Everett was the only other player under par, thanks to his 2-under 70 on Saturday. Everett finished second overall for the second straight year, sitting at 1-under after he recorded four birdies in the third round.
 
Laken Hinton and Gustav Andersson, both of Augusta, finished tied for third at 3-over; Anderson shot a 3-under 69 on Saturday, while Hinton turned in a 1-over 73.
 
Bethune-Cookman’s Daniel Brennan rounded out the top five – and the All-Tournament Team – at 4-over.
 
Shead was named the tournament’s Outstanding Performer, while Jack O’Keefe was named the Outstanding Coach.
 
Behind Augusta, Bethune-Cookman finished second in the team standings with a 30-over 894 (301-302-291), while Florida A&M was third at a 44-over 908 (292-315-301) and Savannah State (303-319-303=925, +61) was fourth.
 
North Carolina Central (315-324-307=946, +82), Hampton (328-332-313=973, +109), North Carolina A&T State (336-345-319=1,000, +136) and Maryland Eastern Shore rounded out the eight-team field.
